Bass Gear for Sale

Hey Bass Folks, I have some equipment that I'm not using. Let me know if you are interested in anything. May take me a few days to hook up with you (I'm current in Ohio, but I'm in Altoona almost every week). Basses: Squier Jazz Bass Deluxe 5-string, white finish (great shape save for a small, unnot...

Oh my, yes. Over the last ten years, the talent-level, diversity of bands, crowds, and available live venues have all dropped off. There used to be a lot of great musicians playing all styles of music in Altoona, both covers and originals. Now, the talent pool is pretty limited and the format has be...

Assuming everybody is using IEMs, the smallest possible cab would be the most ideal. Part of the purpose of using IEMs is to reduce stage volume to improve the FOH mix. If using a tube amp, it may even pay to choose a less efficient cabinet to reduce even more stage volume while being able to hit th...

To reach those few hours of pay I have logged countless uncompensated hours of practice, rehearsal, traveling, gear, etc. LIKE The reality is that the issue with a lackluster scene is caused both by external factors and the musicians themselves. But at this point, all you can do is put together or ...

Unless you're doing some really crazy long cable runs, I'd suggest just having a good line buffer will eliminate 99% of any capacitance problems you may be having. If you don't have any buffered devices in your chain, JHS makes a dedicated line buffer that comes in a 1590A box. Your wireless is prob...

For Sale: Darkglass B3K

If you're interested in a modern voiced bass overdrive, then you may be interested in this. It's practically mint and includes original box. Takes standard negative center power supply (not included). I can do PayPal and ship it if that is more convenient for a transaction. $185 http://s28.postimg.o...

Sweet, I've finally reached the dream of becoming a marketing icon. It's like that episode of The Simpson where Homer looks like Mr. Sparkle. Actually, if this were a country station, I wouldn't be surprised. As a tall, thin dude with bleach blonde hair playing bass, I've been mistaken as Tully Kenn...

I always enjoyed that Cooper plays deeper cuts and stuff that hasn't been beaten to death by Top 40 rock radio for the past 40 years. But on the other hand, his on-air personality is terrible. I feel embarrassed for the dude every time he tells one of his jokes that is about as funny as paving a sid...

I've been pretty impressed by what I've seen from Pedaltrain. I like any pedal board that allows you to run the patch and power cabling underneath for a clean look with functionality. A few years ago, I picked up a Blackbird , which is kind of like a Trailer Trash without the need to sell a kidney t...

Cherry bass, Rob. There's a lot of great stuff coming out of the Fender custom shop right now. What kind of pickups are those? It's funny how tastes in gear changes. I have some stuff that I never thought I'd use five or so years ago. I still don't think you'll ever see me with a set of flatwounds o...

I'd be hesitant to work with any agent or manager who is gung-ho to work with a fledgling band. Most reputable people aren't going to come on board until a band or artist has proven themselves. Never sign an exclusive deal or anything in which an agent will take a percentage of gigs that they themse...

Eh, country's always been a singles-based style of music. It's never been about lengthy instrumental passages and epic arrangements (with the exception of some of Eric Church's material). Things like Pete Anderson running amok at the end of Long White Cadillac are really an anomaly - plus he was Dwi...

Congrats on the new amp! The 5150iii is killer. The Peavey 5150s sound good, but I think Fender hit it out of the park with the third generation. If that amp does anything, it's cut through the mix with a lot of note distinction. Too bad that amp couldn't save Diamond Dave's performance on Jimmy Kim...

Best approach to working with your soundman: "Hi, I'm (your name), I play (instrument) for (band). Glad to work with you tonight! What can I do to make your job easier??" THEN DO IT. You will never have a bad mix. Yep. Conversely, if you really want to make your soundman's job easier, tak...

If that's the sound you're after, then you definitely have to get one. There are lot of other amps, emulators, and pedals that can get you very close to an SVT or Bassman in terms of sound, but I haven't come across anything that sounds like a 400 series.

I have both EH preamp and power tubes in a couple of amps and I have been impressed with their reliability. For newly manufactured tubes, I usually gravitate towards JJ. I find them to have a "glassiness" that appeals to my ears. Some my interpret that as lack of warmth, but as you said, t...

I can't speak for the Pro, but the nonpro is definitely one of those tube amps that benefits from higher quality NOS tubes. I currently have some RCAs in the pre section of mine. I recall swapping the RCA in V1 for a Sovtek, and the difference was night and day. The RCA was fuller and much more harm...

I have an SVT-II "nonpro" (i.e., non-master volume) that was made in the early 90s. I love playing through it. These are great amps.

That's not surprising. The vintage obsession has gotten so nutso that people are trying to track down 50 year old caps for their amps now. Don't get me started on some of the audiophile insanity with people paying $1200 for power cables.
