Smith Transport or know anyone who has? Non-driver position. Good/bad? Comments? Pay rate? It would be helpful. Thanks.

worked in the trailer shop for about 6 months. 65 hours a week and they didn't pay overtime. Barry Smith found some loophole that got him out of paying time and a half if you worked on the trucks/trailers. Other than that I really liked it.

The trucking industry does not have to pay overtime.DirtySanchez wrote:worked in the trailer shop for about 6 months. 65 hours a week and they didn't pay overtime. i worked there almost 10 years ago. mechanics made average 13 per hour. trailer shop was about 10 per hour. mandatory 48 hrs per week. no overtime. we worked thanksgiving new years and everything else. you work weekends. your days off could be tues and wend or mon tues or whatever. only ones getting any time off on weekends where the guys that have been there quite a while and it was only sat or sun. not both. if i where you i would keep looking unless you really need it or make it a temp job. never long term. the only ones that got decent treatment where the dispatchers. this was almost 10 years ago. i did hear that the hours got worst but i dont know for sure. what is funny is that the wash bay crews where making as much at the mechanics because they where getting paid piece rate. i also heard that they did away with that and just pay them straight time now. cant confirm that one tho.
