Anybody have an "adult" kid who's figured life out

Post by BDR »

Can't remember if I've ever ranted about this topic (it's highly possible), but is there a specific age that a child reaches when the parent's brain falls right out of his or her skull?

Image

With my oldest daughter, I became instantly stupid when she was about to turn 18 and I've been on a slippery slope to a persistant vegetative state ever since.

Any other newly realized retarded parents out there who should probably just go ahead and try out for the Special Olympics this year? We can carpool. I'll drive.

My oldest son is 22, lives in another county, works full-time and is self-sufficient. My daughter is 18 and within 2 months will finish her fresman year of college. My youngest son is 9 going on 25. Trucula, I can SO relate on the technological level! The DVD/VCR in the livingroom broke, so they'll bring it down and play DVDs via the PlayStation...I've no idea how! In the last few years I've said to them if I'd one day woke up at their age and had their lives, I'd have thought I'd died and gone to Heaven. My youngest wants a cell, because "everybody has one." I tell him "dream on, dream on, dream on!" :) My oldest was a good kid. I never had to ask, let alone tell him to help around the house or outside. The other two, if I don't do it, it doesn't get done. I said to my daughter to make certain she does well in college and gets a good paying job. A cook or eating out all the time, and paying for everything you need done around the house can't be cheap!

Don't feel bad, When my last VCR quit and the day I unplugged it, it flashed 12:00 so long it was burned into the display!!! 8)

I thought about having kids.
I got a dog instead.
If he pisses me off he will come up missing without too many questions being asked. A kid is different, you can't even give them a note and send them to the six pack shop anymore. Besides sex, I see no reason to procreate.

The whole "rebel as a teen and realize the wisdom of your elders later on life" thing was the opposite experience for me. I didn't realize how full of shit a lot of my elders were until I reached young adulthood. I believe that wisdom does come with age, but I think that one must have a predisposition for knowledge to begin with.

I agree Sanchez. I'm 28 and no kids. I have a hard enough time keeping track of myself. But I do respect good parents out there who actually try to do right with their children. The world is fucked and there are enough children in this world and I have no desire to bring another one into it. Besides, more toys for me!

I can program VCRs, DVD players, tvs, set up stereos and such, but when it comes to gaming systems
and my daughter's cell, fuhget about it!

The joys children bring far outweigh everything else. I keep telling myself that someday I'll miss everything. Nah, not really! :) I'll hopefully live long enough to one day fondly reflect on it all, after they've used their Wings to fly.

Dogs are great; You can be gone a week and they are still glad to see ya!!

Having a step-son is a great excuse to hit the toy isle and help "HIM" decide what "I" want...LOL
He has allot of cool ones that he's not ready to play with....

I have an 18 year old daughter that is the light of my life. My only issue is that she has no clue about what life costs. I thought that by her getting a job she would start to learn the value of a dollar. Well, she has, just her money, not mine LOL. She starts college in August...and I think that reality is going to hit her (and my bank account) like a freight train. Other than that, I am blessed with a happy and healthy kid...and when it comes down to it...that's really all that matters.

Got a 17 year old daughter. Sometimes she makes me want to pull my hair out. She's got a boyfriend who I don't feel is the best influence. I'm still young enough to remember just what all those 18 year old boys really want.
The person below me enjoys a good spanking.

Most kids these days (wow, I'm an old fart) wouldn't cut it as a Jedi padawan learner ... no patience, no comprehension for the idea that maybe, just maybe, someone who's been around the block may have developed a level of knowledge about the world in general that a child, who's only exposure to reality consisted primarily of experiences inside the bricks and mortar of a high school, have not.

I remember asking my daughter when she was around 18, How she had managed to learn everything that I knew and more in 18 years, when it took me 48 years?
I got her back though! At the age of 26 I started telling her about how we really partied in the 70's, and 80's. Now she doesn't question my advice any more. And she moved out!

Guys, Gals, it's all simple...don't you remember what your parents told you?

"I hope someday you have a kid that's JUST....LIKE....YOU!!"

The curse NEVER EVER fails, my friends. Ever.
