Not the U.S.! Soccer is a good sport for kids to learn. But it will never get appreaciation in this country, that it has in Europe. Its grown a little, but not enough. Maybe if each goal was worth like 20 pts or something and they had half naked cheerleaders on the sidelines!Plastered Bastards wrote:I can tell you who cares about soccer.

okay - if anybody payed attention to Saturday.. or if they watched the game and didnt develop a "new found passion" for soccer in the United States.. you blood is obviously cold..
for those who dont know what happened or just say "fuck soccer" - here is what happened..
United States - 1
Italy - 1
** both teams get a point, 1 point. Italy now has 4 - U.S. now has 1 **
but what the US National Team exhibited the other day was a lesson in what would most certainly be called "blue collar soccer" - and with the events than transpired, the fact that the US didnt lose by 30, but still held a draw and could have won.. was amazing.
Brian McBride gets his nose busted early on, gets fixed up and comes back out like a warrior, the U.S. loses 2 players to redcards and has to play the final 44 minutes down a man, the Italians shoved the ball down the US midfielder's throats and endlessly barraged goalkeeper Casey Keller with shot after shot, and like a warrior he made save after save.. and it all ended, 1-1.
Few sporting accomplishments instill me with pride in my American status anymore - watching the 1980 US/USSR Hockey game would probably be it - but watching the tape of USA/Italy on Saturday made me proud to be an American - the courage and heart that 11 men showed on Saturday representing this country was large enough to envelop a country torn apart in political affiliation and bias.. this is why I myself, watch shit like this and always look for the "hero" - the same as in the rest of the world..
Because I personally know I wont ever find a hero in a celebrity, politican, or civil servant.. yet somehow I can find a hero, in sports? Weird.. I know..
So now.. here is what MUST happen for the U.S. to Advance to the 'Knockout Phase' of the World Cup
- United States MUST beat Ghana (not an easy task, Ghana wiped the 'pitch' with the 2nd ranked Czech Republic 2-0 on Saturday)
- Italy MUST beat the Czech Republic (Italy will be playing a man down - the Czechs were exposed by Ghana, so I think this result will occur)
other things..
- if the US loses to Ghana, they are eliminated
- if Czech Republic beats Italy, then Italy advances unles they lose by 3 goals, or the United States lights up Ghana for 7 (goal differential)
- if Italy and Czech Republic tie, and the US wins.. then the United States MUST beat Czech Republic in goal differential (that 3-0 loss to CZE last Monday would hurt the US)
all in all, if Italy and the US win on Thursday.. the US will advance.. and probably play Brazil, in the 2nd round

First of all Germans are like friggin vulcans who smoke the rest of the time and you just gotta let it out, know what I mean...
Ever been to a european soccer match?
Most of us have been to football or baseball games, right?
There's music and attractions and cheerleaders and food and beer and a whole host of thing to distract the eye and ear...
in europe, it's just beer, and european beer is 3X's stronger than Miller lemme tell ya, maybe a pouch of chips with mayo or vinegar, and the game and that's it, no fan fare, no National Anthem, no B-list celebs trying to sing...nuthin.
small wonder they riot.

I have total respect for soccer. I understand the game and respect it. Those mofo's run around constantly, something I could never do. But the game is boring to me, and almost everyone that I know. I mean, I was watching Mexico vs Angola the other night in between sets. It was the longest night of the week....anyways, I came down to the bar after the set and checked out the game. It was over 70 minutes without a score! Come on, I just don't find a bunch of guys running around on a field kicking a ball back and forth for over an hour entertaining. If you are a soccer player or really into your team, that's cool. I respect it, just not my thing. I came of harsh by saying "who fucking cares" earlier in the post, but I guess a couple people do. I just don't get it.

no it's time to get rid of the fucking professionals who represent this country and start allowing college kids to do the job again!skipisode wrote:Like I said before, Americans should stick to "American FOOTBALL"!!!
We seem to suck at other sports in the international realm (i.e. lose in basketball, baseball, soccer, hockey, etc., etc.,etc.)
Hockey stops using pros in either 2010 or 2014 - that'll be the greatest fucking day for hockey ever.

Put it this way, soccer is HUGE in Europe and elsewhere in the world. Until we start breeding soccer players like they do, we will never be as good as them at soccer. We breed NFL players. Put the world against our NFL stars, we'll kick thier asses. It's really just a social thing. Soccer is big in europe and the rest of the world, NFL is big here.
.....and soccer is boring to watch, that's why they riot.
