Like it or not we're right smack dab in the heart of STEELER NATION. Ben is the biggest star the Steelers have had in a very long time. Its a wonder he doesnt have his own channel.
Some days you're the windshield, some days you're the bug.
I seen at giant eagle they had beef jerky made out of him.
Had his picture on it and everything. If he makes himself into beef jerky he should be up and at it in no time.

I was talking to my father-in-law, who lived in Pittsburgh all his life; he told me that the lady who hit him lives in Squirrel Hill - the exit to it is less than a quarter mile from the twin tunnels. She did have Maine plates because she lives half the year in Maine and the other half in Pittsburgh.
You know, that sad thing is that people know where she lives now. I would hate to see what her house looks like in a couple of days. Not to mention all the hate mail and such she might end up with ..
[edit] They are saying now that he didn't have a motorcycle license. He had a permit; it ran out in march. [/edit]
The injuries to quarterback Ben Roethlisberger were confined to his face and the Steelers are confident he should heal and be ready to play in the season opener Sept. 7 against the Miami Dolphins, sources told the Post-Gazette today.
Roethlisberger has a broken jaw, a broken nose and some injuries to his teeth but otherwise came through his motorcycle accident on Monday with nothing else but some scrapes and bruises. Published reports that detailed injuries to his knees and shoulders are untrue, sources said.
One source said that the surgery on Roethlisberger's face took so long -- seven hours -- in order to assist in a faster recovery time. Roethlisberger also should be ready to participate in training camp, although he may not play in the first preseason game Aug. 12 in Arizona.
The quarterback had seven hours of surgery yesterday afternoon and evening to repair facial fractures caused when his motorcycle struck a car on Second Avenue at the 10th Street Bridge.
After the surgery, doctors said the facial fractures were successfully repaired but they would not elaborate. They did say that there appear to be no brain, spine, chest or abdomen injuries.
I was one of them "educated" guys who didn't wear a helmet when I lived in Chicago and there was no helmet law. One day, I was riding in the rain and lost it on a 4 lane singing bridge that I ate for breakfast. I had the same results as Ben, except that besides the fractured face, broken jaw and lost teeth, I broke three fingers on my picking hand. 8 hours of surgery and 6 weeks of pureed mush. Ben's gonna lose some weight.
I know of at least 2 people who wish they had been wearing full-face helmets.
...Oh, the freedom of the day that yielded to no rule or time...
Did anyone happen to see Rendell's interview on KDKA regarding helmet laws? He said, and I'm paraphrasing, "I can't tell anyone to eat red meat only 2 times a week and not to smoke, so why would a helmet law be any different?".
Personally, I couldn't have been more surprised in 2003 when this law was revoked. I've heard the "let those who ride decide" and "helmet laws suck" 'thang many times over. If you're going to going to make helmets optional, make seat belts optional as well.
Then again, there are a lot of bikers in PA and you'd generate a lot of votes out of them. On the other hand, there's a lot of pissed off Pittsburghers and Lynn Swann probably just got more popular.

Did you also see that since the law passed; deaths from motorcycle accidents went up 33% ?? Rendal does have a point, even if the mataphore is an odd one. I think Swann will win it anyhow, well, if not win it, Rendal will not be re-elected; at least I hope he's not ..

If that is true, then the lady should not be cited for anything because he should not have been riding on public roadways at all. Also,if he was riding on a permit he has to wear a helmet per Pa. law.

Yes, but do you realize that motorcycle sales are up at record levels ? More riders = more accidents , simple math. Does not wearing a helmet cause an increase in accidents ? I wouldn't think so. I believe if what I heard is correct that in the majority of the fatalities last year the rider actually was wearing a helmet.
Don't bitch to me about the economy while you're still buying Chinese products.

More riders that are very inexperienced is a big factor in that I would think.

Doesn't the "E" in ABATE stand for "education"? Why aren't they out educating them?
If helmets are going to be optional from now on, I can't LOGICALLY explain how seat belts can be manditory. Rendell is an idiot. Vote for Bert!
Now that I think about it, there is no logical or scientific application to law. That's why those people who have poor math skills tend to seek professions as lawyers, judges, and cops.

yeah, they were saying something about the sales being up as well. Personally, I think it is a combinations of things; the sales, the inexperienced, and the other people - People driving cars, and not paying attention to things around them.
Of all people, Ben should know how important a helmet is. I'd like to see him in a game without one. Glad he was on a crotchrocket, he would have been hurt worse on a Cruiser...
Anyways, found some internet out here in the salt flats.. pictures soon to come!
I think what causes most motorcycle accidents is equipment failure. The nut behind the handlebars is defective.
I think you need to be a certain kind of guy to drive something that goes 160mph with only about 30 square inches of rubber touching the road. It's risky behavior in and of itself, and therefore, when you wreck, it's not a tragedy, it's reality. "Oh, it's a real shame... Young guy set the bike down on a curve, doing 110. He's only 20, and now he'll never walk again. What a tragedy." Not tragedy at all, and not worthy of pity. Risky behavior is simply gambling your well-being for a payoff of thrills, and sometimes when you gamble you lose. Don't want to wear a helmet, hey, you're aware of what could happen... if you wind up pulling your peg tube out in the hospital, and smearing sh*t from your diaper all over yourself, I reserve the right to laugh at your "misfortune." That sounds callous and mean, but I've done stupid stuff (we all have), and when I did, I paid the price. Big Ben came within a cootchie-hair of being known as the dumbest bastard in NFL history, let's see if he learned anything about gambling.--->JMS
It wasn't Ben's fault however johnny, some old lady pulled right in front of him. Also, if he was goin really fast, they would have scraped his face off the ground. Hopefully he learned a lesson from the crash.
And, mr. atomikenrtia, please don't call the Herald a bitch, it's unkind. You're just pissed because soccer sucks and is boring.
I've been pulled over three times in the past year and have driven past countless cops, and I never wear my seatbelt (when I'm in my own vehicle and I'm driving). I have also never had a cop say a word about it.
So, seatbelts are to me optional. Yes I've been in accidents, yes Ive eaten a windshield, yes I'm "living life on the edge." So what it's my life.
Plus how many of you ride motorcycles? If you don't you should have no say whatsoever. I doubt a biker is gonna go telling you what you can and can't do in your fucking volkswagen at the dave matthews show. So let'em alone. Were you there protesting it when they rallied for years to ammend the law? I doubt it. Do you have the balls to do what they did?
Go to the biggest bike rally you can find, take some picket signs saying
"ONLY MORONS RIDE WITHOUT HELMETS" and put the law back in effect.
Are you that passionate about it or are you just bitching like always for the sake of hearing yor own whiny voice? It's getting old do something to change it or please shut the hell up.

Rob, it was Ben's fault that he was retarded enough to ride without a helmet. Motorcycles are dangerous machines — simple as that. Those who do not take every precaution for safety — personal safety and the safety of others — are irresponsible riders, period.
I would never want to burden my family with having to change my diapers because I was too thick to realize that pavement vs. skull equals broken skull every time. Wear protective gear. This isn't rocket science.
