Man, did I ever catch a break tonight!

Post by Bag »

Man, did I luck the fuck out tonight! My favorite local band was playing at a club that's about 10 minutes down the road from where I work. I got off work at 12:45 am and decided to run down there to catch the last set. On the way down, I see 3 state troopers in the 10 mile stretch. 2 of them had someone pulled over. I get to the bar and get a beer. Drank it and got 2 more, downed those and got 2 more for last call. Drank one there and stashed the other in my jacket to drink on the way home. I'm cruising back towards my work, (I live about 6 miles on the OTHER side of work) and I see a trooper with a car pulled over 1 mile from the bar. I get about a mile away from work and a cop goes by the other way. I see him turn around and come flying up behind me, and I'm thinking OH SHIT! :o I figure I'll pull into work and hope he goes by. NO LUCK! He pulls in behind me and flips the lights on. (I didn't have time to hide the open beer in my console) He asks if I've had any drinks and I told him that I just got off work an hour ago and had one at the bar and was taking this one home. He proceeds to make me do a field sobriety test. Now, I'm a big guy and a veteran beer drinker and I dont really consider myself drunk at this point but I had a little buzz. Anyway, long story short, he say's "I dont believe you're drunk, so I'm just giving you a warning for your license plate light being out. And dump that beer." I'm now VERY fuckin relieved! 8) So I pull out and head for home. Get about 3 miles up the road and see another trooper sitting along the road. I go by and he pulls out and starts following me. :? Now I'm wondering if the other cop told him to follow me and see if he could make me "fuck up" or what. Or I think that maybe he didn't know that I was just pulled over? Well about 2 miles from home, he flips HIS lights on. I'm thinking I'll just tell him about being pulled over and he'll let me go. Right? WRONG! He says that he pulled me because of my light and I said, "yeah I know", I just got pulled over a minute ago for it. Then he asks if I'd been drinking (I gotta remember to carry gum) and I told him the whole story from before. He says,"did the other officer give you a breath test?" I said, no but he gave me a field test. He said,"I'll be right back." Here the motherfucker comes with the little breathalizer machine! I KNOW I'm FUCKED NOW! Anyway, he has me blow into this thing for 6 seconds until it clicks. I hand it back to him and all I can think about is the major bitchin at I'm gonna get from the wife, the big ass fine, the license suspension, the fact that the Balt. Kill show is TOMORROW and the wife is gonna divorce me if I go now, everyone seeing my name in the paper, etc... The cop says,"so you only had 1 beer huh?" I just shook my head yes and was getting ready to be fitted with some nice bracelets, and he says "well, you're just UNDER the limit so I'm letting you go." HOLY SHIT!!!

Now before any of you politically correct pricks tell me that I should of been busted, I've been a beer drinker since I was 12, and I know my limits. Actually, I don't think it's possible for me to get too fucked up to drive on beer. I did not get pulled over for weaving and shit, it was the little plate light that got me pulled over. I feel stupid for not knowing that the bulb was out. I've always preached to other people who drive cars with 1 headlight and shit, that they're just begging to get stopped.

Well, it's off to bed and then Auto Zone in the morning, for a bulb! Remember to check ALL of your lights kids!

Damn, I'm glad that everything worked out for you, especially since we have this new asinine legal limit.

It's sad to say, but I trust cops about as much as I trust professional carnies.

Politacally correct prick

Post by tornandfrayed »

Here I am! I have been called many things but never a "politically correct prick!"

Point is that drinking and driving is illegal. I know that everyone can drive drunk and never gets fukced up off beer, I have heard that a million times.

Truth is that your ability to make decisions and react quickly is impaired. Dude you live out where you probably know everyone around you and feel pretty safe. What about the one time that someone stpes out in front of you or when a ball comes out with a kid following it? Strange shit happens sometimes...

Did you ever meet anyone who meant to run over a child when they had been drinking to much? Or how about the guy who meant to loose control of his car and swerve into the other lane killing the mom and child who were on their way home from the ice skating rink. The fact that you think this could never happen to you makes you dangerous.

If thinking that drinking and driving is being "A Politcally Correct Prick" then I my friend am one. You took a beer for the road? Didn't you know that was illegal? I have seen too many people hurt by this. Do you really think that someone just made up the fact that drinking impairs your ability to drive? Cut me a fucking politically muther fucking correct cock sucking break!

Just a thought, nothing personal!

Those cops were just doing their job. Cop number cut you a break, but if you had run into cop number two first you would have been busted for the open beer can. I've drank beer and drove and I bet a lot of us on this page have done it but its never cool to be drinking while driving.

I applaude you for drinking responsibly and passing the breath test. that shows that you are a good person but please don't and drive.
If for no other reason than all the shit you would have to go through if you have gotten busted.

Think about it!

Well said. I also was just driving down the road with my wife behind me(we had met up at the Coache's Inn) a cop tails me for 4 miles and pulls me over for my right tire going over the white line. Since I had played a wedding reception from 6 to 9 and then gone home until midnite, I figured I was safe. No way! got a DUI and took it to court. They slapped my hands for tacking it to court and gave me a 2year probation, lose of license for 16 moths, and a big fine. I didn't hurt anyone or anything. Only myself.
The cops don't need much reason to pull you over!! Beware!!!

Bag passed the breathalizer test, so I think it's safe to say from an objective standpoint that he wasn't breaking the law. I wasn't there when it happened, but it sounds to me that cop #2 just felt like being a hard ass and was hoping to fill his quota for the month.

There are many honorable police officers that do their job correctly. I would never generalize about them, and applaud them for serving society. But still, there are a large contigent who are ego trips and should have never been given a badge. My father had to put his hands on the hood of a police cruiser one night after he was done playing a gig, because two officers were too incompetent to do their jobs. They thought that he matched the description of a perp who was reported to be going in the other direction.

You'll hate me.
I've been playing in bands for a long...long time. I don't drink , but it's none of my business if somebody else does.
If folks didn't drink , I doubt I'd have been playing in bands for so long...
That being said....the cops were just doing their jobs. they're guys trying to make a living like the rest of us , and their job is tough.
Drinking while driving ?
Sorry , but my opinion is it's not cool.
My brother was run down and killed at the age of 23 , the week before his wedding....and the driver was drunk.
We all know what we can do and what we can't do...so if you get caught...don't blame the cops.
I have a thorn in my hand over this subject.

I WAS NOT blaming the cops. Just telling a story where I said I was VERY LUCKY. I'm sorry about your brother too. I've lost a sister and I know how it feels.

Peace.

People he was within the legal limit !!!!!!!! Lighten up.

The point is, anytime you see red and blue lights behind you it gives you an uneasy feeling. So wether you're within the limit or not your heart is gonna be jumpin in your chest.

It sounds like you were safe Bag. Bad enough you get crucified at the legal limit, your getting crucified here and you weren't even at the limit.

The only thing that can beat the breathalyzer is

HYPERVENTILATION

This oxygenates your blood and temporarily puts a higher % of carbon dioxide in your exhale.

I'm glad that you passed the breathalyzer, but he had you dead to rights for an open seal. I am really surprised that he dropped that charge.

Driving with an open container is like writing "please bust me" on your forehead.

Get caught when you have a CDL license-lose it for 1 year first offense. 1 beer puts us truck drivers over the limit.

I don't drink and drive, and had you gotten busted, I'd have no sympathy for you.

I do however think that everything went according to plan. You were pulled over 2x. You passed sobriety tests, 2x. You're lucky you didn't have just another half of a beer to put you into illegal territory.

I'll drink the same night I drive, but it's not like, hit the bar, down a 6er, and leave. It's like, at the bar at 930-10ish, have 1 or 2 tops, and then leave at 130AM. If I plan on drinking, I've got a ride.

Grats on not getting busted. I'm not going to preach to you, but think about it next time :P

You saw cops crawling all over the place on your way to the bar, yet still felt compelled to drink and drive?

I won't say I've never done it, because I have, but the bottom line is, if you drink and drive, you're wrong, period. We have all probably made the judgement call of "am I impaired?" There is a line there somewhere, and I think legal doesn't always mean you aren't impaired, and over the limit may not always mean you are impaired.

If we make the decision to drive under those conditions, we should accept the consequences of our actions. You people here who are sniping at the cops for doing their jobs are wrong, straight up. F--- the police? Grow up, moron. Thank the police. 99% of them are good people, dealing with idiots day after day and seeing things that would make most of us cry outselves to sleep at night.

FYI

Post by Jacklyn Miauff »

Just FYI: 1- 12 oz beer
1- shot of liquor
1- 8 oz glass of wine

All of these equal one ounce of Alcohol. No matter what you do.............................it takes you 1 hour to lose one ounce of Alcohol. You do the math. I was a bartender for 19 years and taught bartenders on alcohol awareness.

Best advice: Find yourself a DD.

I'm currently paying my penance for a DUI. 2 1/2 years to get it overwith, 25 hours community service, $3500 in fines and fees, and NO BEANS. I don't give a shit how much fun it is... it's dangerous, and not worth it.----------->JMS
