I love Cedar Point! I try to go every year. We usually go on Memorial Day. It's still a little cold, but there's almost no one in the park. Last year I think I rode the Raptor 4 times, Millenium Force 3 times, Top Thrill Dragster twice, and every other coaster at least once in one day. NO LINES! Ah shit! Now I gotta go this year!

[quote="songsmith"]The wife and I are hitting Lost Wages, Nevada in April, with plans to do the rollercoaster on top of that tower.
OMG...it will without question be the ride of your life. We went up in the Stratisphere last year in Vegas...and the roller coaster is one thing..however there is another ride that literally drops you off the side of the building and dangles you 1,200 feet in the air! Wear a diaper!

Cedar Point would be great, but is a bit far, isn't it - and would 1 day be enough time there on a bus trip? Is there a Bus company in Altoona that a park trip could be arranged through? There's 1 up here, Fullington. A travel agency (They don't charge for their services.) might be helpful, too. Back in Schuylkill County, when my oldest son was in Cub Scouts, I arranged a trip to Historic sites in Philadelphia and the Franklin Institute with the help of a travel agent.
Jones, Jimi and I gave you a few more topics,

I went to Six flags in Balitmore a couple of years ago. They have about 9 coasters there
It isn't quite as awsome as Cedar Point but it is a lil closer.
I spent one day at Cedar Point and it was busy as all heck, We only missed one roller coaster because of rain so one LONG day should be sufficient, unless it rains.
I'm sure we will be going somewhere this year, I don't know where but if we want to get a group together from rockpage I would be into it!!

How would everybody feel about going during the week? It would be a beotch finding a weekend where there weren't gig conflicts, and the parks are much emptier on a weekday.
Cedar Point is about 6 hours. Six Flags Great Adventure is a smidge closer, and has some amazing coasters (including the world's tallest and fastest). If you are thinking of something closer, Kennywood, Hersheypark, Knoebels, and Six Flags America are all about 2 hours from South Central PA.

Well Rose you got it half right with the coasters in Wilwood, the wooden one is called....The Great White, the metal one is the Noreaster, and there also is the Sea Serpent that you can spot going into Wildwood. I lived in Cape May 16 years and I loved my coasters!!!!!!!
Call me crazy...... but I do ride the wooden one in lakemont park too, one year at halloween you could ride it as much as you wanted so I didn't get off for 9 turns and that was only because nature called... then I got back on.....why are so many of you uafraid of it?...Is there something I missed?????

coaster ride from hell
some yrs ago we went on a family outing at Idewild park. everyone was excited and decided to ride one of the coasters first thing and it was the first ride given that day. we started out ok and everyone was having a fun ride. This coaster went out over the water, but right before we got there near the shore line was a moveable steel post about 8 ft high and had a metal arm sticking over the track. we came down a grade and i spotted this metal post across the tracks....and so did everyone else. all I could think about was the safety of my 2 young sons with me and what if. well we hit that metal post and everyone was screaming and yelling. we were lucky it hit the first car (putting a nice big dent in it) and the cars stayed on the track. when we pulled in to stop the guy running the coasterwanted to know how the car got dented? we just walked away. I knew it was our lucky day.
Where there is light, there is Hope!

THANKS SheWolf! Yep, that's it, the "Great White"...you'd think I'd be able to remember that name, being there's a band by the same name and the fact my oldest son and I've ridden it twice as much as the Nor'Easter, but nooooo! Maybe my brain blocks out it's name BECAUSE it's the same as the band?
All the times my kids, sister, nephews, mom and I went to Wildwood, my sister and mom visited Cape May, but on that day, even though my nephews would have been fine with them, I always went to the beach (Wearing SPF 45!) or water parks and amusement piers with my kids! OH WELL!
I'll get to Cape May, one of these days. I do love Victorian Architecture! We did all once visit a Zoo with no admission down there and surprisingly, it wasn't 1/2 bad. If you're speaking of the wooden coaster at Lakemont adjacent to the ball park, I'm fairly certain that's not "Leap the Dips". I've been on that one and got to ride it many times in a row, too!
