Love em dude ! It's been forever since I got to go to a amusment park and ride a coaster. I could never get anyone to go or if they did they wouldn't get on any big coasters. Pussies anyways! l.o.l.

There is an amazing wooden one on one of the amusement piers in Wildwood, NJ. I always want to call it the Nor'easter, but I believe that's the name of the steel one there on the other pier. On that steel one, you sit and your feet hang down. Not long before we went there last time, a worker walking too close was hit in the head by someone's foot and killed. At least I think it was there! It was a steel one my son, sister and nephew had gone on somewhere that had happened at. My oldest son and I went on the wooden one at Wildwood 20+ times during our last vacation there. WOW - that was almost 8 years ago!
Steel Force, or is it The Steel Phantom at Dorney is also pretty cool. It looks like you're going straight down. WHOO HOO, what a rush!
For "air time", I love the wooden Phoenix at Knoebel's Grove. It's awesome, but I do wish it was a longer Coaster. That's one of the reasons I want to some day visit Cedar Point...I recall hearing they have one of the longest wooden coasters - something like a mile long with a lot of air time!
I've been to 2 different "6 Flags" in my life and Disney. IMO, Disney's great for kids, but was a disappointment for me as amusement parks go. One of the few unique things there is the Haunted Mansion. I was also going to say the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror, but that's in another park adjacent to Disney. MGM, I think. When ever I do get to Cedar Point some day, I hope the crowds there aren't as bad!

Love coasters! More than guitars! Just ask my girlfriend which topic I babble about more often.
Check out the Roller Coaster Database: www.rcdb.com. It's a friggin' amazing website with stats and pictures of rides from all over the world.
We should put together a Rockpage park trip. We could call it the Rockpage Company Picnic. Group rates rule.

Songsmith is forever in my good graces for giving me a Phoenix t-shirt. Thanks man! YankeeRose, I think you're combining the two Cedar Point woodies into one. They have Mean Streak, which is massively long and gives you headaches, and little Blue Streak, which has ridiculously good airtime.YankeeRose wrote:For "air time", I love the wooden Phoenix at Knoebel's Grove. The wife and I are hitting Lost Wages, Nevada in April, with plans to do the rollercoaster on top of that tower. Okay, she is... I'm not going anywhere near it. I'm okay in planes and tall buildings and such, but "air time" , for me, is a cardiac arrest waiting to happen. When they take your picture, I always look like I've just been shot. It's always the same: I say I'm really going to do the big coaster this time, we do a smaller coaster, I get all chicken sh*t, and skip the 170 MPH, 9000 foot behemoth that hangs you by your left foot while you do fighter-pilot maneuvers for a minute and a half.
On the other hand, I love the Rotor-type rides that pin you to the wall... they make my wife chunder.
I'd still go on a park trip with y'all. I'll watch purses while you ride.--->JMS

I used to love roller coasters, until I rode the Sidewinder at Hershey Park. I know it's rather tame compared to most, but the going backwards thing really freaked me out. Immediately afterwards, I started thinking "Hmmm... you wait in line for about an hour and a half, just to get the living hell scared out of you for a few minutes. I think I'm done."
Up to that point, my favorite was The Great American Scream Machine at Six Flags in NJ. Another one that's probably quite tame by today's standards.

I love roller coasters they always remind me of the summer after I graduated from high school when my dad and I went to Hershy and Kennywood twice each. I think it was the first year the Phantom Steal was open and I forgot to take my earings out before going on the coaster. When of the turns acually drove the post into the skin behind my ear. Ahhh good times.

Ahhh, the Steel Phantom (RIP). That thing beat the hell out of you, but it was a lot of fun.
I saw a funny thing there once. There was a section of sidewalk located underneath the top of the first drop of the coaster, where it inverted you. Well, there was a group of people standing underneath gathering up all of the change that fell out of people's pockets when the coaster flipped upside-down.

... and then the wheel fell off.
We go to Hershey alot...My older bro and my oldest sister use to be house parents for Hershey schools so we had passes...My nephew even married a grandaughter of "Reese"..(so we get chocolate alot!!)...(prob why I am addicted to Hershey's syrup...and not on food!
)...We like to go Labor Day weekend....You'd think it be crowded but its not...everyone has returned to school and you can ride anything with no lines!....they take the chains down and you go right to the front...We rode "Great Bear" like 5 times in a row...got off and right back in line and was on next train if not 2nd one....its alot nicer...one trick is after a rain...the coasters are faster...we did the "SuperDooperLooper" and it began to rain and once they lock you in they can't unlock it till it makes a trip around(with out a maintanance guy to unlock it)..so they asked if we wanted to go...We all said"YEAH!!". When we were coming back in I could tell it was faster than usual. We slid thru the building and back to the chain lift again and they hit the emergency stop. We were getting poured on. They passed rain gear and tarps up to us and we had to do a make shift shelter till maintanance arrived to release us and bring us back in...Was coolest trip I can remember!

Places I've been to:
Knoebel's Grove - many times since early '70s
Hershey Park - latter 70s, early 80s - I haven't been back since.
Kenneywood - '76 or '77
Dorney Park - '70s and '98
Six Flags Great Adventure, NJ - '70s
Kings Dominion, VA - mid '80s
Busch Gardens, VA - mid '80s
Six Flags over Dallas - '89 or '90
The Amusement Piers/Water Parks at Wildwood - 4 times in the '90s
Disney World - 1996
DelGrosso's - many times over the last 4 years
Lakemont - many times over the last 4 years
There was a time I didn't care for Roller Coasters...as a child I'd gotten a lump on my head while riding one at Dorney and for years I was afraid to go on them. I rediscovered my love for them when I was in high school. On a school trip, a friend and I waited to ride in the first car of the Super Dooper Looper.
My advice to Songsmith and anyone fearful of them as I used to be, is to simply relax and move with the Coaster, you know, "go with the flow". If you're too tense and are stiffly trying to hold on for dear life, you'll only hurt yourself.
