Off topic but gotta ask!........Anyone ever hear of a "Peavy T-30?" I use to have one but sold it at a garage sale for $50 about 10 years ago. I had it out five minutes before someone bought it. Wondering if I should punch myself in the nutz?????? I never could find anything about this guitar
When I first started playing I had the bass version of the T-30, the T-40. It had two humbuckers and it was solid maple, neck and all. It weighed about 175 pounds, but you could've run it over with a truck. A good solid straight up rock 'n' roll bass.

'77 Les Paul Custom
'82 Les Paul Custom
'89 Strat Ultra Plus
'00 Flying V
'01 Carvin
and 2 Fishers: a Saturn V and a Brain May copy
a Martin acoustic
and a Music Man Stingray 5 bass
I wish I could buy like 50 more
I always wanted a Ibanez Gem 777

Bassist_25, you should have introduced yourself Friday evening at Burgi's. I love to talk shop with other players. There was a young guy that came up to Felix and I when the 'crawlers were on break; was that you?

The Eden WT-800 I was using is pretty new and I'm still trying to get used to the parametric eq section. Until I do (which may be never), I was running it pretty much flat with my bass going through a Sadowsky DI box.

I have favored Jazz basses for quite some time now. The one I was playing that night has been modified a bit with EMG pickups, Schaller roller bridge, and Stewart McDonald neck.

Funny you should mention the Dolphin bass. There was a time I really wanted to get a hold of one, but it never happened. Nowadays, I try to stay away from exotic basses for fear of the prices and my wife. I've had other Warwicks (Thumb, Fortress). Nice basses.

I'd have to say one of the most beautiful (looks and sound) basses I've ever had was an Elrick Classic five string. I don't have it any more; loved the extended range, but could never get used to five string basses...

my bass gear is
Fender USA V-jazz
Carvin lb75
Gibson victory bass
and an old BC Rich N.J. series, I power them with a Eden WT 800 with a Eden 410 XLT cab and a Eden 210 XLT cab I was using a Hartke HA 3500 on a 2200 pro cab but I like the Eden much better.
My Guitar line I use mostly
Gibson challenger
Fender strat
Fernandes acoustic/elec.
and for heavy jobs a BC Rich Iron Bird
and power them with a Marshall JCM 900 the 4100 series

*LOL* Yeah, I was the young guy. I hate going around and introducing myself. *LOL* I just feel real pretentious by doing it.

The rig sounded great, though. Everything was very defined and the highs really cut through when you slapped. Was the SWR a Goliath II or a Goliath III? I'd really like either an SWR or Eden cab, but the diminsions are just too deep. I drive a sedan, so I have to stick with cabinets that are 16 inches in depth.

I hear what you're saying about the parametric EQ. My last amp had a graphic EQ. The preamp I currently use is a little strange, because there really is no "flat" setting on it. Lows and highs are boosts and the mids control is just a cut. The mids also have their own dedicated para-mid section (that's what I usually use to tweak a room). Anyone who's ever used a BBE preamp knows what I'm talking about. It's a great unit though. The DI is post-EQ, and soundmen love it. It's in the same price range as the SansAmp RBI. You can't go wrong with either unit. The SansAmp has a more traditional SVT sound, while the BBE is hifi and modern.

Oh, and bass players, what do you think of 12s? A lot of cabinet companies are offering 2x12 cabinets, which are a good stand-alone solution for guys that want the punch of 10s and the rumble of a 15 or 18. GK has a really cool 2x12 Neo cab. I wish they offered a matching 2x10, though.

Remember all of the old generic guitar companies from way back when - stuff like Kay, Penco, etc.?
Funny you say that paul I still have an old Kay that was my dads early 60's model in good shape its not worth anything but its just one of those keepsakes that was dads, and it does play well. he gave me an old silvertone that he bought when he was a kid, now that thing is a real gem.(LOL). but that too is one of those things that was handed to me when I was a kid. that was one of those guitars that was hard to play you had to be dedicated to learn on that thing. it made me very thankful when I got somthing better

I have a hartke 2200 pro cab and it is loaded with 2 12s and a horn. very nice sounding you are correct paul it does have the punch of the 10's as far as the rumble of the 15 its there but you have to push 64 and 30 some but you can get it

bassist_25,

The SWR is a Goliath III; old design that's ported out the back. (I've had it for at least 10 years.) I was biamping that night. I had a 15" cabinet on the bottom of the stack, another cabinet in the middle that was not plugged in, with the SWR 4x10 on top of that. I try to get the 4x10 up as high as possible so I can hear all the tonal qualities of the bass without having to turn up so much.

I've seen comments on the 12" cabinets you mentioned over on the Ernie Ball forums. People are digging them, but I've not tried one.

To keep this thread on topic... ... any Musicman fans out there? Did you know they are offering a double pickup option for the Stingray and Sterling basses? I have one on order and hope to make it my main bass so I can put the original fretless neck on my Jazz...

Yeah, I was wondering if you were biamping. I thought that I saw a cross-over in your rack.

I've always liked the sound that guys got out of Musicmen. I've played Stingray copies like OLP, Dillion, etc., but I've never played the real thing. I like the Bongos, too.

My stage axes:
1994 Takamine EF-341C dreadnought acoustic, with cutaway. The black Bruce Springsteen model so common with country singers.
1992 Antares A-model mandolin w/ K&K Big Shot transducer, sunburst.
1958 Supro Studio Deluxe 6-string lap steel, black MOTS, named "Slee-um" after Marc "LC Slim" Prave, who gave it to me. This thing flat-out refuses to play anything but country. Possibly the nicest gift anyone ever gave me.
I also occasionally play a 1955 Oahu 6-string lap steel, white/phlegm-colored MOTS, named, "Delmer." Both the lap steels were made by a company called Valco, and have the famous string-through pickups, but sound vastly different... Delmer sounds amazing cranked up and overdriven as well as clean, and Slee-um would still sound like Hank Williams if I used it in a Metallica cover band.

My other axes:
2005 Rogue Classic Spider squareneck dobro.
1948 Oahu squareneck Hawaiian acoustic slide guitar.
1949-ish Regal 6-string lap steel, mahogany and maple, Bill Lawrence Les Paul pickup.
Yamaha F310 Dreadnought Acoustic.
60's Kent tenor acoustic.
1970's Penco concert-body acoustic, name-- "Girl," main guitar for most of my life, wrote about 300 songs on her. So named because she's my longest relationship, and because she's temperamental and difficult to manipulate. :D
1990's Lotus acoustic dreadnought.

1979 Peavey T-15 electric, ash body, 2 P-90 sounding pickups, short scale, great guitar.
2004 Samick Tele copy, Duncan humbucker and 2 lipsticks. One heavy-ass block of wood.
1990's BC Rich Bronze Series Warlock, black, a beater guitar that sounds surprisingly good for blues.
1993 Fernandes 1962 Tele copy. Turquoise color.
1994 Fernandes 70's Tele copy. Beige. Both workhorse guitars for cheap.
Late 80's Fender Squier Strat, heavily modded with Tex-Mex pickups, baby blue automotive paint, American Fender alder body, and pearloid pickguard.
Squier Affinity P-Bass, unknown age, used for recording demo's.
I also have a few other yard-sale finds, that I can't remember right now, and harmonicas by the dozen, and little odd instruments like recorders, a Harmonette, and a bunch of hand percussion.

Mostly I have cheap junk, but that's my thing.----------->JMS

NICE choices there, I had a few Charvels in my days of playin heavier stuff and always loved them.
I see a lot of people posting Schecter, too. I was just playing one today down at the new guitar store in Barnsboro/Northern Cambria called GUITAR WORX, right beside where Obsession used to be. He has a few nice Schecters and other stuff up there.
......as far as my preferences, It depends on what kind of mood I'm in.
I like my '95 USA Strat, and my Guild Bluesbird on other days.
Right now I gig with my Guild acoustic and take my Strat out with a little 20 watt amp just to add some diversity.

You know, I was wondering the other day if Obsession Guitars was still in business. Is Bray Fox running this Guitar Worx?

I haven't been through Barnesboro in at least 5 years.

I think the surname would be "BREE" I am pretty sure, but no he is not running it, another friend is. Bree, (actually his name is Greg) is still around, though, helping out, and some of his gear is still there.
The new guy is now a B.C. Rich and l think Line 6 dealer, also, along with some other good mid grade stuff. You would actually be surprised with how diverse the Johnson line of equipment is. some perty nice guitars and amps, from little up to halfstacks.

I've got 3 frankenstein guitars I take with me to shows.

Ibanez RT series - pickups are from 3 different guitars, this is my main guitar that I've used for the last 14 years. I play rough, so it's literally falling apart.

Ibanez RG - This is my backup to the above guitar, pickups are PRS, and one Strat in the middle. Original bridge pickup from this guitar is in the neck of the above Ibanez. I've used this one for about 16 years.

1970's Strat re-issue - Duncan Hotrails in the bridge, bridge pickup from this guitar is in the middle of the above guitar.

I usually don't spend more than $500 - $700 for a guitar because I do not take care of them the way I should. Like I said, I play hard, so it would almost be like burning money to invest in a really really nice piece. Not to say the guitars aren't 'nice', the '$500 - $700' I paid when I bought them is probably $700-$1000 these days.
:D

Effects - I used to have a Boss ME-10 that I used for 5 albums and about 350 shows, but it's been retired to use as a pre-show tuner only. Currently (and for about the last 3 - 4 years) I went back to my youth and started buying the pedals I used when I was getting started with electric guitar. I'm old, so you can imagine how much I paid for some of them
Boss NS-2 Noise Supression
Boss PH-1 Phaser
Boss DD-2 Digital Delay
Boss CS-2 Compressor
Boss OC-2 Octave
Arion SAD-1 Stereo Analog Delay (Best noise maker I own) You can still get these for about $35 on Ebay, sure they are plastic but they sound great.

Amps - older Mesa Boogie Duel Rect., 1978 Mesa Boogie SOB (found it at a music store, basically a really loud Bassman), 1979 Marshall JMP 50 W Super Lead - just got this over the summer, not road ready yet

Cabs - @ Marshall 4 X 12, one JCM800 and one 900. Both look 20 years older than they really are.

I love those little Arion pedals. They're cheap, but they're great for noise because they seem to go too far in one direction or the other no matter how you set them.

Guitar w/Floyd, functional

I try to take as good care as possible of all of my equipment. If I decide to keep gigging my current cabinet, I'm getting a cover made for it.

All of my instruments do have belt-buckle rash and the normal dings that come with gigging. The back of one of my black Ibanezes even has the names of people I'm close to scratched into the paint. I try to keep the front looking pristine, though.

I've always bought used guitars. That way you can get a better guitar for less money. I like to beat them up anyway. It gives them character.
