Dingwalls: Do you need crooked fingers to play these things?

So, do Dingwall players need to break their fingers before purchasing these basses?

I've never played a fan fret instrument, but I hear that you get used to it really quick.

Put your hand in front of your face with your fingers spread, pointing up and your palm facing you.

Your fingers are not parallel to each other, they are naturally spread at roughly the same angles as the frets.

This is the kind of *the glass is twice as large as it needs to be" thinking that an engineering degree will get you.

LOL! I've never heard that before. I like it.

I do have a question about Dingwalls.......Novax has a patent on their 'fanned fret' system, but from what I understand, Dingwall's multi-scale system is different enough that they do not have to pay liscensing fees or whatever to Novax. How can that be?
