Graveworm did an awesome death metal version of R.E.M. - Losing My Religion. I also like Marilyn Manson's remake of Sweet Dreams and Tainted Love (great, great, great song to have someone strip to BTW which is why i like it so much        ).

ToonaRockGuy wrote:There isn't really a "best" of anything, so I'll offer up some of my fave remakes in the past few years, by song title, artist, and original artist:

"Whiskey In The Jar" - Metallica (Thin Lizzy/Irish Drinking Song)

and a few of my fave classic remakes:

"Little Wing" - Stevie Ray Vaughn (Jimi Hendrix)
"Statesboro Blues" - Allman Bros. (Blind Willie McTell)
"You Shook Me" - Led Zeppelin (Muddy Waters)

GREAT choices, Toona!

Here are just a few of mine:

"Kansas City" - The Beatles (Little Willie Littlefield) "Hey, Hey, Hey" also usually goes along with that Beatles' tune, but I have no idea who originally did that.

"Roll Over Beethoven" - The Beatles
(Chuck Berry)

Actually, just about ANY of the songs of that Genre that The Beatles remade.

There are so many tunes mentioned in this Thread that would be on my list...we all have such great taste in Music! :)

Overkill's version of "Changes" by Sabbath is great! They replaced the keyboards with a bass.

Van Halen's cover of "You're No Good" is kick ass too!

Thanks Moxham. It's amazing how many times "Hey Joe" has been done.

Just off the top of my head....

California Girls--David Lee Roth (Beach Boys)
Smokin' in the Boys Room--Motley Crue (Brownsville Station)
Blue Monday--Orgy (New Order)
American Woman--Lenny Kravitz (Guess Who)

And I have heard a kick azz version of "Africa" by TOTO but I can't remember who did it...
And I also know a rock version of a Back Street Boys song that is really good....again, can't remember who sang it. I'll have to do some checking on these two.

Some local bands do some awesome covers too!!!
My favs....
Roadkill
Blind Johnny Death
Hair Force !
Bad Daze
And the list goes on and on.....

Feelin' Alright - Grand Funk (Traffic)
She - Anthrax (Kiss)
Electric Funeral - Iced Earth (Black Sabbath)
Rocky Mountain Way - Triumph (Joe Walsh)
Cross Eyed Mary - Iron Maiden (Jethro Tull)

Def Leppard had a cover on the radio of an older song recently also that I liked, but I can't think of the name. In fact, I thought they had a whole album full of cover songs out, but oddly enough their website has no mention of it at all. Styx has an album full of covers out now as well that's quite good.

The Hair Force guys do a great cover of Accept's Balls to the Wall. Vic had Eric Brittingham (from Cinderella/Naked Beggars) tell him that he did Cinderella better than Tom Keifer. (Talk about a major ego stroke there LOL! )

Some of my faves that haven't been listed

Poison - Your mama don't dance ( Loggins and Messina)
Cover of a Rollin Stone (Dr Hook)
Rock N Roll All Nite (Kiss)
Squeeze Box (The Who)

Cinderella- Move Over (Janis Joplin)
Jumpin Jack Flash (Rolling Stones)

Faster Pussycat - Your so vain (think Carley Simon did the origional)

Uncle Cracker did a great cover of Drift Away (not sure who did the origional off hand) Bon Jovi did a cover of it as well.

Fozzy (Chris Jericho, WWE) did some great covers on their first 2 albums.
The person below me enjoys a good spanking.

Dobie Gray did the original version of Drift Away and he shares the vocals with Uncle Cracker on his version. It is not very often that somebody does a remake of a song and includes the original artist.

Mistress, the original version of "Drift Away" was done by Dobie Gray, who also appeared doing backing vocals on the Uncle Kracker version. Good cover, very true to the original.

Another good "hair band" cover that I always thought just smoked was Warrant's version of "Train, Train". (Originally done by Blackfoot) Kickass.

I really like Disturbed's version of Genisis' "Land Of Confusion". Thats an awesome song, and was totally out of their genre, and they blew it away.

Dave Matthews Band and John Popper did a great version of Gin and Juice by Snoop and 'Dre

Tool does an excellent cover of No Quarter by Zep on the Salival CD.

Joe Perry Project - Bang a Gong is not too shabby either
