Gee Rob, I'm hoping that was complete sarcasm. I get as much feeling out of the live music as a musician I think. Not all non-musician fans are mindless and just there to get laid.
People go out to see music for all the reasons mentioned but I bet a big one not mentioned is simply "I'm meeting someone here" which is why word of mouth between friends can really help a band.

Exactly. I don't go to get laid, I don't go to drink (not 21 yet), I don't go to meet people. I go to hear a good band. I'm usually up front too. And I take lots of photos. But I only go to see one band and they're only here once a month.

This guy is killing me! I'm not sure if it's his warped mind or the multitude of spelling errors that is so funny. By the way man...don't jump on a STRAT. It's a delicate instrument. In any case, if you come to Aldo's so much, stop on by. We'll be there Friday night. I'll make sure I go back to Krypton and bask in its red sun so that I may come back to the yellow sun of this solar system and shoot lasers from my eyes for you. I think a lot of the reason this thread was started was because I referred to,"doing the lazy-ass, sit-down steel guitar thing with Blind Jonny Death" in another thread. If so, that's hilarious and completely ironic. I was being facetious. Anybody who sees BJD, particularly when I sit in, sees 3 guys totally wound up and vibrating, sweating, rocking, stomping... ALL energy. I sit on a chair so I have a lap for my lap steel guitar to rest in, and moving around too much makes the bar creep around (I go out of tune really bad, really fast). For sure, I get into it too, and it sounds like poop, so I have be cool, like a bluegrass banjo-player (they stand statue-still). We have a running joke to, "keep playing, I'm not tired yet"... they're all spent and sweaty, and I just sat in the chair, so I'm good.
So noslander comes up clueless. Again. ---------->JMS

It's a slide guitar that is played sitting down, hence the word "LAP" in the instrument's name, "LAP steel". You can't stand and play one. There are no straps on it, so there's no way to hold it.

Just do everyone a favor and do a few things:

1. Use spell check on your posts.
2. Know what you are talking about before you post. Do some friggin' research.

From Wikipedia: "The lap steel is typically placed in one's lap or on a stool while seated; it is not held upright like a standard guitar. The strings are placed much higher above the neck than on a standard guitar, and are not pressed to a fret when sounding a note. I don't think it takes laser beams to put on an awesome show. I think energy can be there just from enjoying what you are playing and just enjoying playing in general. Some of the best shows I have seen have barely had good lighting let alone frickin' laser beams.
