Holy Hurricane...

Post by facingwest »

I'm still here!!! ;) Katrina decided to visit the Keys before heading north. Not a single place on the island was prepared and it sure didn't stop anyone from partying either. Most places stayed open if they had power. Damn, shoulda took a cab and got shitfaced. There's always next time. ;)

I went out for a little bit today to see what the damage was and a few trees were pushed over and a lot of limbs and stuff. Everything that was flooded cleared up quick.

Thanks for thinking of me bro. Thank God that the walls I live in can withstand a whole shit load more than Katrina could dish out. ;) Hopefully, we won't see anything worse.

Last year Kenny and I were in hurricane Charlie and it passed by rather quickly. Katrina decided to hang around for 24 hours before moving on. You can't sleep because of the wind. I should've went out partying on Duval just like everyone else.

As a matter of fact, the Hurricanes need to be down here for the next one and I will personally get each and every one of you shit faced. There isn't a hurricane out there that can match my boys. ;) Do you accept the challenge Bobby?

If you don't happen to get booked at Sloppy Joe's, there's another bar that you guys would REALLY fit in at. The Hog's Breath Saloon. I guarantee you could hold your own to the entertainers they have there. Lemme see if I can get a contact for you. ;)

I'm going to say it again. Be careful Ski.
Jae and I just got back from N. C. and we had some Katrina influenced storms. (nothing too bad, but the first day of rain and thunder was cool). I heard New Orleans is going to get pounded.
So, if you need to, grab your woman and hunker down somewhere and don't get blown away!

John, you need to clip that little guy with the guitar on your web page and make it your avatar.

The condo we're in is like a freaking fortress, so no worries there. When the hurricane hit, we were trapped in here without power for 24 hours until the storm passed. Just glad it's over with and no one that I know of here got hurt.

Saturday night I told Felix, Bobby and Jeff I wanted to get in contact with my buddies in New Orleans and get the Hurricanes down there for some Festival action – BUT YIKES!
Seriously though, I do have some very dear friends who live there and although they made it out to Alexandria and Dallas I have heard that St. Bernard Parish was hit the hardest and my friends Johnny and Pepper live there. We actually partied on that levee with them back in '93. Her sister Cher and her husband Thom have been restoring a beautiful, old "shotgun" house on Esplanade for the last 3 years and it breaks my heart to think it may be devastated.
This really hurts because I think of New Orleans as a second home. I've been there alot and the people there, next to the folks here, are the nicest people I've ever had the pleasure to jam and party with.
I will keep you updated when I hear more, but please keep my buddies in your prayers!!

When Andrew decided to hit Homestead, FL all those years ago, the people had little warning, other than a knock on their door. My cousin and her family huddled in their bathroom and luckily that room stayed intact...I adore History...but things can always be replaced, people can't...Prayers, Energy, Vibes and whatever else will work, on the way!!! :)

Thanks for the good thoughts, honey!

I just got off the phone with my friend Cher. Her sister Pepper's house is gone and she is holding onto hope that her house has somehow survived. Our other friend Mren has no idea where her husband is, he wasn't able to make it home from the riverboat where he is a Pit Boss for the high stakes poker casino. (Chris and I went to the Erotica Exotica ball in San Francisco with them in '95)
I am watching in disbelief as they show footage of the devastation and looting. The highway that crosses Lake Pontchartrain is torn to shreds. (In 1993 I drove across it from Huntsville Alabama to New Orleans, getting a kick out of the fact that "Ramblin Man" came on the radio and I was “On my way to New Orleans this morning” and “rollin’ down highway 41”.
I haven’t been in touch much this year (my Dad had cancer and Chris’ Dad is still in the hospital) but last Saturday night I finally got in touch and we made a bunch of plans to get together for Halloween this year. We talked for hours and that familiar ache that I get for New Orleans came on strong. I resolved to make it this year. It is such a special place. The music, the food, the love...amazing.
I have a tattoo on my hip that I got on Rampart Street . It is a staff of notes with a Blue Rose and thorns. It ain't as pretty as it used to be but it still signifies to me my love of music, my friends the streets of The Quarter, the Absinthe Bar, The Napoleon House, Progress Grocery where the muffalettas are made fresh by the minute, The Jazz Festival out at the race track, the vats of crawfish, corn and potatoes poured out onto the picnic table at Peppa’s house where we jammed til dawn, drinking Voodoo Ale and getting “frightened” as we liked to say, cause we is all God’s chirrens, ya know.

Man, I’m so sad right now. I feel helpless that I can’t do anything about it but pray.
