I agree alot with what Byndreason said up to the point of the delivery room thing. If you helped make half that kid, you're going to be there in the room when it comes out too...or else.

I ... LIKE ... BEANS!!!

I like burnt popcorn too.

Anyways..we talked about this the other day. Some friends came over with their 18month old. He didn't listen. He got a quick butt smack.. He wailed and went right to his momma (the same person who spanked him) for comfort. It's funny, when we're little we go for comfort from the person who hits us to show we're sorry. When we're older and get hit, we run away to not get hit again. Then when we're truely old, we hit back.

But then again, if I had it my way, a graduate level degree in either pyschology or social work would be a prerequisite before anyone could become a parent
and other things you have said (read) about child-rearing, I just have one question. You don't have kids, do you?
No? Didn't think so...
Don't worry, no disrespect taken. But I still stand by my belief on it being irrevelant on whether one has a child or not.

Psychology = science
Subjective experience can be used to create hypothesis, but shouldn't be regarded as objective fact.

Damn for being more of an empiricist, I sure look at science from a rationalist view. *LOL*

I really didn't expect to create some much controversy, though I said in the other thread that controversy is my middle name. ;) I knew I would piss a few people off and they would come at me with anecdotes. It's funny that a thread that began with someone beating someone up in a supermaket (which I found funny, BTW) turned into a thread about development. Again, the grad degree comment was just a cynical jab at parents who haven't a clue. I really don't expect someone to invest years of schooling to have a kid. I think people should at least educate themselves when they are expecting, learn as much as they can about cognitive, emotional, personality, and social development.

But either way, I think we can all agree on one thing: Beans Rule!

I never understood the whole new notion that a baby is soley a creation of the mother. But then again, I may wind up pissing off some feminists if I start talking about that. (Like wise, my happy pro-life ass never understood the whole "it's my body" argument either).

There you go Paul!! Let's start a thread about feminists!! I have lots of thoughts on that.

... and before we even get to that, shouldn't there be an application and screening process? I think that a test should be given, but then again, I've been called "too conservative" in the past.

thanks for providing another perspective....I too was amused by his last couple posts. It was like reading comic books, unneccesarily violent and graphic, but probably never intended for intellectual stimulation anyway, so whats the harm.

Woof - if you want to put that vivd imagination to better use, instead of making up stories about violent confrontations you're welcome to assume the fictional character of a large breasted hot coed and write random posts on my bands guestbook about what a great time you had at the past weekend's show, replete with graphic stories about after-parties, drugs, and multiple sex partners.
We'll see.
