In the 1960s I was very deep in to The Ventures. Walk Don't Run, Perfidia, Lullaby of the Leaves. I think that any guitar player who started their career in the early 60s owes a tremendous debt to The Ventures. They were a huge influence on all of us.
I was also into The Beach Boys, Jan & Dean and The Four Seasons.

The Who - Call Me Lightning
A Top 40 hit from 1968 you don't hear very often. The Who made this quirky video at the time fo the song. It also features a bass solo by John Entwistle.

The Walker Brothers - The Sun Ain't Gonna Shine Anymore

Music trivia: Nobody in the band had the last name Walker and none of them were brothers with each other. They all used the stage name Walker with their real first names.

I picked up my first guitar in April 1962. What influenced me to start playing was a song called "Walk, Don't Run," by the Ventures. Any guitar player who started out in the early 60's owe a great debt of gratitude to the Ventures.
2012 will mark my 50th year playing guitar. Crap, I'm getting old.

ahh...thats a great one! I didn't like the cover much thoughf, I never thought it stacked up to the original. Just having Diana Ross on it messed up the dynamics that were so great from the original.undercoverjoe wrote:Ain't No Mountain High Enough---Marvin Gaye and Tammi Terrrell, 1967
