My inspiration may be returning....

Post by KeithReynolds »

I have had the desire recently to rejoin a band type environment again.
For the past how ever many months, I didnt want anything to do with playing or thinking of a band, but I have the itch again.
I find myself headbanging or playing air guitar while listening to metal songs again...which is something that hasnt happened in so long. I lost the fire for playing and creating, so I havent done either in a while.

Im divided on what I want to do though. Part of me wants to tap into the metal side, and another part wants to exercise some musical freedom and change it up a bit. I cant really decide. I have a bunch of little jackass demos that cover both, but I am just lost on which to do.

I think it would be fun to do something that resembles 'Condemned Existence' in the intensity department. I thought we were a good band, haha. I dont wanna be limited to intensity/anger though. There are a range of feelings & emotions that id like to harness and translate into songs.
I dont like the feeling of having to stick with one style. Not at this point.

I guess what I need to do is find people who are willing to play something super heavy, and then play something super light the next song. Good luck, huh? haha.

PLUS, id like share the stage again with my friends who are in bands now. Multiband shows were always awesome. I switched to bass the last time I jammed in a band. Bass is much more fun than guitar in my opinion. I love it. ANNND it takes out the hassle of finding a bassist.

I may even just hold off and see if the inspiration vanishes. I just thought it was nice to have inspiration returning and I wanted to share. :)

I haven't played seriously with anybody since 2005. Back in March I bought an acoustic guitar and started playing with a friend and am having a really good time so far. So if you're starting to get the itch again, I'd follow through with it. It worked for me anyway.

What, may I ask, triggered your inspiration to play music again?

Good to hear it Keith. I hit a period like that a few years ago. Sold every piece of equipment I owned and walked away from everything musical related. Then I decided to give it one for shot and started RMF. I am having more fun now than I ever had in a band or with music in general. Only thing that sucks is that since I sold everything I had to start at scratch again as far as equipment goes. Going from a PRS Custom 24 to a Squier Tele is a huge difference! haha but anyway. Go for it man. You may end up in a better place than you thought!
Videos destroyed the vitality of rock and roll. Before that, music said, "Listen to me." Now it says, "Look at me."

Thanks for the words of encouragement, guys.

A few things triggered this....

I suppose I feel like I have something to say. I didnt have much to say before, and now I do. Thats a big reason.
Sometimes things happen and you wanna write about it, or maybe theres a topic that one wants to address.

Also, I do feel like I have something to prove to myself. I am 30 and I really feel that there is just more to do...musically.
I have plenty of song ideas ive done over the past few years that I really like that are doing nothing at all. Might as well throw them up in the air and pee on them if im not gonna use them, haha.

Theres a few minor things that have added to me thinking about "getting back into it" , but these are the main ones.

btw....Scott, I will NEVER be as cool as you. ;)
