Oh, dude, current?

Hurricanes
Backdraft
Blind Jonny Death
The Grimm
Scream ( my wife's fave)
Fat Vinny
Nightcrawlers
Homer's Army

Not in any particular order, except for my brothers in the Hurricanes ( I currently play in a Hurricanes tribute act :) ). In addition, I'm really diggin' the band I'm in right now, but I'm trying not to walk around with my chest puffed out. I won't mention the name out of modesty, but the initials are S.I.D.E.S.T.E.P. ------>JMS

Thanks for the nod John,

I do want to get out and see you guys soon. Is Tim Kelly playing with you?

1980s — THIN ICE:
• Gave me my first glimpse at what it would be like to take the stage and do the things I've always wanted to do.

1990s — LIQUID A:
• Inspired me about 10 years later to get off my ass and do it.

How about HYBRID ICE. Can't believe they haven't been mentioned yet!!, and to my best of knowledge..........Heaven Tonite is trying to reform and play together every now and again. At least that is what I heard from the keyboard player a few months ago...........but things could have changed. I will have to get in touch with him and see if Heaven is still trying to make an occasional GO of it!

Mine personally was the first 6 person version of Broken Neck. Man that band was good.

I'm a fan of the Grimm as well. I haven't seen alot of the bands out cause I work nights when I'm not playing and have a family so this list isn't really that big but, there are a few that really stuck to me while playing shows with them.

This thread has me thinking...does anyone actually have any of the recordings from Hybrid Ice, Bashful, Heaven Tonight, Fatal Maim, etc. and could they be recorded to disc? I know that CDs weren't the thing back then, but I figured I'd lay it out there. I'd like to see if I could get some of these bands recorded. I'm curious as to what the scene was like in the 80's when I was just a young'un.

I have mostly all of that stuff in my archives for the "Backyard Rocker." One of my goals is to eventually have all the vinyl and tape stuff preserved on CD. But I have both Hybrid Ice vinyl albums; Bashful's vinyl EP, cassettes and CD; the Harpo recordings, Fatal Maim (the One Beyond The Grave 'official' album the band put out plus some demo tapes), Dead Reckoning (again, the official Diggityflop cassette EP and several demos), a lot of other local band recordings as well.

I'm still in need of pre-1980 local band recordings, as my pre-1980 collection is relatively few and far between. If anybody has any pre-1980 local band recordings they would like to burn off for the "Backyard Rocker" local music archives, I'd greatly appreciate them!

I don't think Heaven Tonight ever released a recording; it's possible there might be a demo or two floating around, but to my best knowledge, they never put out an official recording.

Former Heaven Tonight singer Scott Robleski put out a solo album this past year.

Thanks to folks for missing and acknowledging some of my old bands... Bash (along with it's first incarnation - Positive Attitudes), Sublime, Edison.

Todd - Darren Zentek from T4, etc. is playing for "Channels" now with J. Robbins - in case yhou were wondering. No longer does he play in his tightie-whities - but he's still awesome.

And I second that emotion with:

Necracedia (I think I have some old vinyl lying somewhere)
The Pinch
Ethel Meserve
Glendale (I know I have a 7" here)
Edison - had to say it
Violent Reactions
Mid Carson July (although not Altoona, still dear to my heart)
The Insignificant
Coffin Peg
Ahmuk (where in the hell is Mr. Bidoli)

I'm getting too old to remember any more - so if I forgot any friends... Sorry.

The Hybrid Ice self-titled vinyl has been re-released in CD format since 2000. The vinyl release would set you back some serious $$$, but you can find the CD for a reasonable price with a little searching. Their second release, "No Rules" from 1989 is available on CD but is quite rare.
The Bashful EP is virtually extinct and highly sought after by collectors.

I saw The Front for the first time recently at the Bavarian Hall and was soooo impressed! (I left the area for 18 years so I didn't get to see them the first time around)

Does anyone remember The Press? I think they were from Johnstown around 1979-1980. We used to see them at the Brandywine in Jimtown down by Portage. They were GREAT!

BUT of course, I ALWAYS love THE HURRICANES!!!!!

Holy Moley Steve Bidoli! I played with that guy from 89 to 91 in a band called Sludge. Then we broke up the band and I started playing with the Insignificant for 7 years.
Does anyone have Necracedia's "From under the house of God" or "Blinded by Apathy" demos?
If anyones interested I am in the process of remastering all The Insignificant's material. It's will have 26 songs from the 2 7"s,comps and the full length album we did plus some songs that was never put out,and maybe some live stuff(hopefully cd-rom with live clips)

Ah the good ole days

Mama Corn
.OO Buck
Sidestep
Strummershow
Lone Wolf
Bradley Junction
Detour
Payback
Mr. Crowley
Thin Ice
Tantrumm
Black Angel
Blytz

okay, just kidding, those are bands I've been in. :afro:

The Hurricanes
Ice
Bitter Route
Shattered China
The Grimm
Whiskers & Lace
Heaven Tonight
Badwrench
Hybrid Ice
Homer's Army
Xeno
Bashful
Defiance
Man Alive
Earthtones
Queen Bee & Blue Hornets

...and I know it sounds egotistical, I really do, but I think Mama Corn is a really good bluegrass band. I don't take any credit for any of it, either... I honest-to-God feel like I'm along for the ride, and my bandmates are really talented. I consider myself lucky that I even get to pick with them.

Mandrake<---first band I ever saw in PA, at the old William Penn Inn!

This is so cool. I drummed for Mandrake and remember playing the William Penn. We used to have to wait for the strippers to get done sometimes before we were allowed to set up our equipment.

I was also in Laughing Sam with and without Ron Dalansky. Got to sign my first and only boob at the old Sabs when i was 16. Those were the good ole' days.

Glad to be mentioned in this topic, but the bands i played with compared to everyone in this thread, are more like Anvil...LOL

Manndrake was awesome. I last talked to Tim Mann about 2 years ago... can you believe it, he doesn't play guitar at all anymore. Best guitarist I ever worked with, and I've worked with some pretty incredible pickers. When I was in Black Angel with him, he played Bach's "Bourret" and Paganini arpeggio's FOR FUN. He can also play Skynrd, Bakersfield, and poopy-doo pop stuff like nobody's business. He just got real tired of lugging giant PA's into tiny, smoke-filled rooms for chump-change, his exact words.
