Favorite local bands of all time?

From the 70's till now. Who is your favorite? Who would you love to see reform for a show? Just curious.

Favorite local bands...
I really liked the original "Heaven Tonight."
The real one with Scott Robleski singing and Matt on guitar and Jamie on drums. That was a great band.

A band called "Ice" from Northern Cambria, I think. Guitar player's name was Ron and his last name started with G. Hey it was almost 20 years ago, and I drank then. Anyway, it was a 3-piece, and they did Rush covers spot-on, then did ZZ Top, but still sounded like Rush doing ZZ Top. I remember the soundman sang backing vocals from back at the board. Great, great band.
Nitro was pretty rockin', too. I saw them in '81 at Mt. Union High School, and they were doing mostly originals, very rare then. Fantastic guitarist, John Hazel. I eventually wound up singing for them, doing studio stuff, and they were much more experienced than me, so I learned an awful lot in a very short time. I'd love to see both those bands reunited.----->JMS

Locals
Lovefry - I really liked them, I know I stated this before. Their bassist, Nigel Dickie was insane. I think his dad is a prof at PSU or at least was, haven't been able to find anyone who could track them down. Chris Curci did their coverart on their cassette as well as the logo for one of my first bands, Urban Sprawl.
Badwrench - I was really into Badwrench too. I liked all of the incarnations as well, but I'll never forget being a young Badwrench junkie. Had 3 old school shirts (Michael Jackson Alien, Sliced Bread, Cosmo Rocket) as well as Out of Place and Cosmo Rocket.
Other honorable mentions: Kaos (sp??), Nixon Pit Crew, & High Voltage.

Re: Favorite local bands...
I had just moved here from northern Minnesota and was visiting St College for the first time and happened to see "Heaven Tonight". Matt was one of the coolest and nicest dudes I had ever met!! (and still is to this "day").Rogaine wrote:I really liked the original "Heaven Tonight."

Since I have only been able to see a limited number of bands since I got into the scene after I became of age, the only one that I can think of is Wake Up Screaming. They were awesome.
Oh, and since my step-dad used to run sound for them, I will send out a shamless plug for Over The Edge.

My favorite was Skye. They did a lot of very progressive stuff in the 70s and Robbie Johns is probably the best guitarist I ever saw from the central PA area.
Jim Colyer - Bassist

I have a recording of Ice (on vinyl). The writing credits for both songs is to Raslevich (no first name or initials). The 45 was recorded in Johnstown.songsmith wrote:A band called "Ice" from Northern Cambria, I think. Guitar player's name was Ron and his last name started with G. Jim C. and Lonewolf. Skye members have been talking about getting together. I'm suprised anyone remembers because we didn't play Altoona much. Problem is we would probably have to do it without Robbie John. Robbie is living in Montana and also works for Gibson doing clinics and traveling the world for them. Jim, we'll have to talk.

I would have to say i miss the state college scene of the early 90's:(some of the best original stuff i have ever seen)
Junction (best female fronted indie rock band by far)
T4 / Donora (heaviest and loudest band i think i have ever seen)(amazing drummer too, hit so hard the guy that made the drum could feel it)
The Pinch
Glendale
Or the old school punk days:
Bash
The Insignificant
Coffin Peg
Violent Reactions
I also miss Sublime (the altoona one that was before the one that we all know now)
