Paul....based on all of the long quotes you have made, and the diction/language
you have used to describe things............I would almost have to swear you have had musical training or are a musician or something.

that is unbelievable. I am putting my house up for sale in the next couple weeks and was looking at some places in the tyrone area.... I will scratch those off my list if that's the case. Does anyone know when this voting is happening? Have they been trying to get the programs out for a while? Just curious If I want to bother with moving there because that's not good. Music is so important for kids.

Okay, I give.
It's not political at all. Politics plays no role in education funding, none of you ever bitch about paying for someone else's entitlements, and Tyrone SD is just cutting education because they're dicks who don't care about your kids.

I think I understand this. It's that double-Santa Claus thing the left-wingers talk about... where conservatives lose their mind about deficit spending, and spending-cuts are their top priority... until they have a majority, then they spend as per the established norm.
That didn't take long at all.

So anyway, I'm gonna leave this conversation to the experts. I will note that I don't have children, and that cutting any education funding whatsoever won't affect me, other than the infinitesimal possibility of lowering my taxes. They're your kids, you deal with it, but try and keep politics out of it.

I totally agree with you Frank. They are looking at high-end cost extra-curricular activities which at times costs the district a lot of money. Considering that some of the students will move on to district, regional and state band or chorus can come at the cost of the district.
The same is with athletics, however, both of these entities probably have boosters that help to defray the costs of things that are needed to help the district.
If school districts across the state continue to cut programs such as music and athletics among other programs, our children are going to look elsewhere to spend their time.
Having talent is one thing....what you do with it is something else

+1 on that Jeff, that is so true. The kids will find some other place to be and in some cases it could be trouble starting. I hope and pray that it doesn't turn into that.

The meeting is tomorrow night. I am going to try and go ...

O.k - We went to the school board meeting tonight. They are not going to cut athletics or arts. So music and football is staying. They are going to have the student fund raise more, and they also raised the cap at which each student and raise.

I spoke with a couple of the board members after the meeting and they all echoed what I said about test scores and the like. They also said that they will never take the activities away.

I am going to start going to the meetings more often. I think it is a good thing to be aware of what is happening with your kids school. I would also encourage any parent to go as well.

That made my night and makes me feel a lot better ..

Frank Thanks for the update! I was really bothered by this the past few days... I can now continue my search for homes in that area without too much concern...

Tyrone isn't the only school district grappling with this issue:

You know, it's a shame to take away something that you can enjoy all of your life- - -music! I don't know of very many high school "superjocks" that ever really made it big after they threw their last touchdown pass or dribbled their last basketball or hit their last home run their senior year! I don't personally think that I could do the back handsprings required of me many years ago, but I can still pick up my guitar or sit at the keyboards and have the same satisfaction as cheering on the home team! I don't know very many, okay ANY 50 or 60 somethings that would ever even CONSIDER wearing a jock strap again, but you can still rock on at any age!!!
