I have some more photos, but it took forever to load this one up to a host on dial-up. It's not vintage, but it's the bass I'd marry if they didn't frown upon that sort of thing in Pennsylvania.
It's one of the lighest solid-bodied basses I've ever played. I've done marathon sets and have never had any amount of shoulder or back fatigue. It has a very "pianoesque" tone, though the DRs on it right now give it a much more darker timbre than the Dean Markleys that I was using before. I'd like to drop a set of Bartolinis in it just for the hum-cancelling attribute. Interesting enough, the neck pickup is the one with the "Jaco sound," as opposed to the bridge pickup, which is usually the Jaco pickup on Jazz-styled basses. My only main compliant seems to be that the neck is really sensitive to climate changes, which sucks here in good ole' Central Pa.

I have a 50's danelectro, Sears used to sell them from what I was told..
First guitar i ever had, found it in my grandmothers attic with a neon swastica (i cant spell) type paint job on it. Scott Smith and I spent forever trying to sand down the paint, said "hell with it" and just gave it a flamejob.
Maybe I'll dig that and my '72 Hondo II out sometime and snap a pic...

...and that poor poor danelectro. We screwed this horrible bridge into it because i couldnt get the strings to stay on this flat piece of metal with grooves on it that this thing came with. Still have it tho... If anyone knows of any info about this guitar, please let me know.. I cant find shit..

man, that danelectro is awesome in its cheesiness. I've always hated those old silvertone 6 tuners crammed on one side of what should be a 3+3 headstock.
How do you know the date of the Hondo?

Colton, that Silvertone/Danelectro is one of the models that came with the amp-in-case that every teenager had in the 1960's. They came with either one or two lipsticks, and always featured that weird-ass shovel headstock. For more info look up "amp in case" or "Silvertone guitar" on E-bay.
They're still pretty plentiful, so they aren't expensive, but I've seen the lipstick pickups go for $100. I passed on a Dano hollow-body bass once at Leighty's flea market... wish I hadn't... it would've made an excellent wallhanger, sometime in the late 60's somebody did a psychedelic paint job that was obviously done at home by a teenager, but it was still very cool. It was made of really cheesy masonite, but they only wanted $10. I still wish I had the p-up.-------->JMS
I have a 1963 Zildjian 20" A Ride and a Pearl 5"x14" Steel snare drum from the 1980's that I have to put back together. Needs a new throwoff and some cleaning, but it sounds awesome. Only vintage gear that I have.
Thanks songsmith. I've checked out quite a few 60's silvertone sites and seen guitars similar, but nothing exactly like this one. All the pictures in the vintage sites had a slightly different body shape, or had the shape but didnt have that f'd up headstock shape. My uncle always claimed it was from the 50's... is that even possible or just highly unlikely that its an earlier version? I'd really like to know for sure.
As for the hondo, i was told the year by the guy who gave it to me. He also gave me an accoustic he said he got about the same time. It's sitting at a freinds house so i have something to play when i'm there.. I'll snag it and snap some pix.
Is there somewhere i can run the serial to really find out about the hondo II? I havent had any luck researching it.

Danelectro basses are still made of really cheesy masonite, and are hollow. Was it the longhorn?
Colton, I don't know jack about Hondos, and I don't even have that one pictured anymore. I sold it to one of my girlfriend's friends. It was a truly uninspiring instrument.
One thing that was cool about it, was the neck heel had an additional section glued to it. It was a bolt on neck, but the additional part made it feel more like a set neck. Is your's like that?
Excellent topic. Only real "vintage" gear I have around is:
60s Dano 1448. Don't have the amp/case. Crazy that the pickups
go for a pretty high price but the whole instrument is still, relatively,
expensive (I blame Stevie Ray).
I mull over selling it but it was my first electric and it does sound
good, records very cool so I keep putting it off.
A friend has the reddish 2 pickup model. Plays it out at their regular
giggy at The Phyrst every Friday.
and I have this weird, big, blue Russian-made Wah from the late 60s.
A friend from Britain gave it to me when he was pitching stuff. Needs
a new pot in the worst way but it's pretty cool.
Had a 59 (I believe) Tweed Fender Bassman about 10 years ago.
Was a great amp. Ended up needing money for moving expenses,
a new house, etc. and figured it had to go. STUPID!
As someone mentioned, the old Harmonys, Tiesco, etc. go for a good
bit o' cash nowadays.
I was given a guitar called a Lafayette almost 25 years ago by some
family that wanted it out of their basement. Was a cool guitar. Looked
a lot like a Jag (LOVE Jags/Jazzmasters). One sold on EBay about a
month ago for $325.
UNFORTUNATELY, I'd decided many years ago to tear mine to pieces
to figure out the wiring, etc. and it's assorted parts are somewhere in
my parent's house.

I once was given a '71 Harmony hollow-body which was beautiful but the neck was beyond help... Twisted and bent like a silly straw. I was going to hang on the wall as a piece of artwork, but instead I decided beat it to smithereens in Jeff Wallack's living room one night. Definitely the right decision.
My most vintage ain't a whole lot to talk about. Paiste colorsounds and some 3000 reflectors. I'd give anything to go back 10 years ago when I owned a handfull of pre blue logo paiste 602's. I remember really liking the sound of them but thinking they wouldn't be worth much money. Do you all see what paiste 602's and earlirer go for on ebay these days?
The best oddity I ever had was a Marshall Artiste 3203 30-watt 4x10 half stack. I believe it was made in '78. It was a channel switching tube amp, and I recall the "clean" channel wasn't really that clean, and was dwarved in volume compared to the dirty channel. It probably needed retubed somethin' fierce, but at 16 I had no cash to pop in a quartet of el34's. I kick myself in the ass every day over selling it. (But I drank like a Norse god for 3 months afterward, I wonder why I weigh so much now....) Wish I knew the name of the dude I sold it to... I'd love to buy it back. (Now that I'm too old and boring to drink like that anymore). Additionally, anyone know anything about those mid - 90's Red Bear heads gibson imported? I don't mean to hijack this thread, but I recently dug this amp out of the attic, blew off the dust, and damn! it sounds great paired with my podXT.

Nothing too impressive here. I have a Fender Japanese Strat that's 25 years old and gets used daily. Also a few Electro Harmonix stomp boxes from the 70s, but those are mostly collectors items since they are pretty noisy.
I have an early 60's Fender Blackface Pro reverb amp, a Gibson ES-345 w/varitone circuitry from same era and a 1979 Gibson ES-335S Professional solidbody. All are used regularly and in fine shape.
Early 60s Silvertone 1457 git and an even older Argos transportable,
battery-powered PA. Was my first "amp". Cost me $7 at an auction. Somewhere I have a tape of original demo idea my first band did...and
this weird little thing (The amp, not me) sounded pretty dang good.
Oh...and no...none of it's used on a regular basis.
