You could just bring a lawn chair in and sit to watch the game on the widescreen. There was some food and soft drinks on sale, but folks had the option of bringing their own stuff if they wanted. They were also selling 50-50 tickets for the local youth ice hockey organization.
NBC has exclusive rights to broadcast the games in the U.S. They pulled the plug on the big screen viewing party outside mellon arena in pittsburgh, and in detroit. Its been a big deal among the fanbases.
It sucks that NBC is pulling this crap,it's been a huge boost over here for the fanbase.
When you watched the VS broadcast they totally focused on the crowd outside the arena. There were thousands strong and no problems.
But sadly NBC wants to make money instead of selling the NHL to the casual fan.
But I blame Gary Bettman for jumping into bed with NBC.
I think VS. has done a decent job with their coverage, but VS. doesn't get the whole market across the country.
The Penguins fan base just keeps growing, they are loved here almost as much as the Steelers,ALMOST.
I have been a Pens fan for a long time and this group of guys are special,we have a great thing going and it's just getting better.
It's Lemieux,Jagr,Francis,Coffey,Murphy,Ulfie,Errey,Bourque,Barrasso,Stevens and Tocchet all over again.(Over exaggerate I know.)
All I can say now is, "LET'S GO PENS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
