just be aware that once the year is up, it sounds like you need a fresh install if you want to keep it.

I only reformat if I have to. Thats the way it should be unless the user is doing something wrong constantly 8)

Because your registry fills up worse than a colon on red meat day.
With regular backups and files and settings transfers formats are too easy anyways, ill go a year and then douche.

^^ What he said ... But not in those words lol ..

There is a lot of things that get cached and filed in the registry from use. Not to mention when you install a program and uninstall it there will still be traces of it on your pc. It is a good way to clean out all of the crap that is left behind. Sure Ccleaner is a great tool to use - But, it can only do so much and a reformat is the best to do it ..

The last time I installed a program I didn't keep was a year or more ago... Testing programs out before I install them is what the VMware is for :) Then its just a 1-click roll-back that takes at most a few seconds.

I see your points, but in my experience, thats totally overkill.

Besides I don't think I could put that much time into computer maintainance anymore. I need to have my computer up and running at any given time. The hours of downtime while I reformatted and reinstalled everything would literally cost me money...

That is where an image file would come in handy. Takes 5 minutes instead of 5 hours or days ..
