didn't hendrix get big on a cover? didn't limp bizkit get big on a cover? hasn't disturbed released a couple of covers? what about metallica? they released a full two disk set of nothing but covers...

i hate the whole "your in a cover band you have no talent" mentality.

and yes, the OP is kinda like a spambot. not that i have a problem, i just saw all the replies and was like "wonder what's up?"

it does get old after awhile... or like every day or two of seeing this dude plug his page.
I don't really care either way i just had to remark on this so...
Well not that many ppl are familiar with the fact hendrix's is a cover...and limp bizkit can suck every male human baby maker in south africa (lol maybe thats where they are because no one's even heard of them since woodstock 99)...and disturbed's cover wasn't even taken into consideration for the album until Phil himself approved it (and in my opinion i think they did it great justice)...and Garage inc. was complete rock bottom for Metallica and they have yet to even try to come close from climbing out of that hole

that's not the point. the point is that some of the greatest bands in the world do covers. probably half of them got famous on their version of another persons song. it dosn't matter if the cover was considered good or bad or what state the band was in when they did it. the fact is that they played a cover. people that hate cover bands seem to hate them because they "have no talent" because apparently hendrix didn't have any talent when he covered hey joe. i guess george thourogood had no talent when he covered john lee hooker's one burbon one scotch one beer. didn't dream theater release a disc with one original and 4 covers, including a medly of covers? i guess those guys have no talent. i guess john petrucci sucks at guitar because he covered a deep purple song. anyone that think talentless hacks play in cover bands are blind. but it's ok. i know people come to see my talentless cover band every time we play. no offense intended.

I'm in an original band. we play a cover here and there. There are a lot of awesome cover bands around here full of talent. (plus they make good money which i envy  ) Its all Pros and Cons.

And hell, it takes talent just to keep a band organized and running.

It comes down to this for me. Im personally all for 100% original music. I believe thats the way a musician expresses himself. I didnt spend $2,000 on one guitar and $2,000 on an amp just to be playing bon jovi my whole life in front of 50 people in a bar no one is at. Playing covers are a great time I wont disagree, but to be knocking eachother over which one is better is retarded. Some people like different things and for me I personally like original music better. To be sucessful especially in this area you must incorporate both styles.

I believe the area we live in "Central PA" is a complete shit scene for music. And if you disagree with me you have a lack of intelligence. Now I dont know who to blame this on (Bar owners, people in the town, or no one really promoting the music because they dont give a fuck, except for JP) , but for me I personally can't stand it. The only one who does care is JP and I give him credit.

If anyone has intentions of getting noticed you either have to move elsewhere or be fucking riduculously lucky. Its sad whenever people are 100% satisfied in wanting to hear Bryan Adams, Bon fucking Jovi, and Journey anymore. I mean where is the taste in music? Maybe i'm wrong but the people that come out to see shows anymore are seeing all the same songs, show after show. And here I blame bar owners. In Altoona/State College your fucking guarenteed to see atleast four to five 80's cover bands playing every weekend and guess what....the bar owners are satisfied, I just dont get it. And there is a constant decline in attendance... hmmmmmm i wonder why???

People around here are just different I guess. Where is the change in music of wanting to here something new and tasteful. I definitely support cover bands, being in my band thats what we predominately play, but I believe one must have originality. Sure the cover bands pay great sometimes, but it does get old after awhile. Why do you think no bands from around here can gain success in this area? Its because you must start as a cover band just to get looked at and thats fucking shit. Thats why this area blows.

And quit knocking dudes for trying to promote their music.

ImNotDead wrote:New song posted at www.paulsnotdead.com , titled "One For the ages". This song is offensive, so if you're easily offended...don't listen. This is like all other recordings...meaning...it's basicly rough draft/demo quality. The intro is about 2 mins. with no vocals, so be patient...it's a very nice intro :) PLease sign guestbook and let me know what you think....

If you're referring to one or the other Rob, one bulldozer may do it. However, to render this thread completely "Rob Ego-Free," you may want do enlist the services of some larger machinery.
