Boxer's in Huntingdon. Food is great and a lot of interesting
beers to compliment anything you get.

Also, to tout a fellow RPer, The Alley Popper has great food.
Every time we've gone there, everything is terrific. Matter of
fact, it's been a while...

Lisa,

Actually, was thinking about that just yesterday. My problem is...I'm lame...

Depends on if the lad wants to sit and watch the SB. Normally, he's not
all that interested (Panthers fan), but never know.

Actually I never got a bad meal there...Great breakfast!...And your right on the price...Don't let the looks of the place fool you, great home cooking. I drove all over Altoona one year for Valentines Day and ended up back there b/c all the places were pack. I was glad I did!!

We used to live 100 ft. away from Tim's Cafe, and didn't go in for YEARS... what a mistake, we went there weekly after the first time. I love the Altoona Cheesesteak, but everything I've tried is really good.

You folks from Huntingdon County... anyone ever eat at the old Vista Vu, I think it's called Peggy's or something similar now? (Mill Creek)

Also, anyone found any better ribs than Clem's? Fat Daddy's does a pretty good job in Altoona, but damn, I love me some Clem's!--->JMS

The Athenian Cafe is good, its near where Sir Skate used to be.
Sakura and Yamato are both awesome.
I have heard that Phonecia (probably spelled it wrong) is really good, but very pricey, Ive been too poor to check it out.
And of course, Taco Bell  I love it, may not be fine dining, but hey, Im a cheap date!

I think that's "Mill Stone Manor" now

And also in Lewistown: Downtown OIP has a great deal with large pizza, doz wings, and baby back ribs for around $25... we hit that up everytime we go camping in the area for the Friday night meal when we first arrive at the campground (saves from cooking first night).

Cheffrey's -- downtown Altoona -- 11th ST., I think it is. Good fish sandwich platter. And the place is owned by a guitarist. Support your local musicians.

For ribs, I like Mel's in Newry.

My parents love that place. It does look bad from the outside, but the food is great.

Yea, I heard Mill Creek Manor is really good if that is the place that is like an old motel? We ate at Topps in Mill Creek one day, the food was good, but man was I mad, we sat outside and some goofy cop pulls up and leaves his car RUNNING (AC and all, man talk about noisy right where we were sitting and eating)....I thought he was doing 'business' inside but noticed when we paid our bill he was inside leisurely eating. That was rude and who do you think pays for the gas in cop cars? That was when gas was way high too. I guess that kind of thing is tolerated in Mill Creek cuz the waitress just laughed it off.
Is the place on Logan Blvd Sakura or Yamoto? I'm goin there tonight for Sushi and I want to try the Altoona roll if its the right place. Sushi is like a party in my mouth. Yummy....and so healthy!
I had good lasagna at D'Attavio (all you can eat!) in H-Burg.
Love all of the Indian buffets in SCollege as well as the Green Bowl. The Thai places, eh, not so good. I've had much better Thai out-of-state.
Phoenicia is good but way over-priced. Love the Olive Garden but their mainstream items (lasagna, meatballs, etc) are mediocre. Order the more creative dishes there. Their Alfredo rocks. Love the house red wine.

Sakura's over in the Orchard Plaza. They'll possibly ask if you want to sit at a hibachi table... if you want sushi, go sit at the bar or nearby, it's usually less crowded... though if you go on a weeknight, it probably won't be crowded. When the place first opened, they used to do a big-time Benihana show at the hibachi, but it's mellowed a bit since then. Still lots of fun, though.
The first manager, Jimmy, was the guy who really introduced me to sushi, and all the little no-no's, like don't use all the wasabi they give you, and that ginger root is like parsley sprigs (nobody really eats it). He took all the la-dee-dah out of sushi, and convinced me that there are things out there that taste really good that I haven't eaten yet. Who'd have thought I'd be really into something called Unagi Don (fried eel... excellent), or that I'd happily eat soup made of kelp, cornmeal, chicken broth and chunks of tofu (miso soup... again, tastes WAY better than it sounds)?
That reminds me, I'm not a seafood guy at all, I hate shrimp and lobster, but definitely order the Kani salad as an appetizer (share a bowl). It's got a spicy kick to it, but it's not super-hot or anything... it really kickstarts your tastebuds. Really goes good with a domestic lager, too.
I'm anxious to see how you like it, Amy, based on your knowledge of food. Obviously, you might not like it at all, and I'd want to hear that, too.--->JMS

I have eaten at Sakura, but we have to go to Yamato thats what my daughter picked (even tho its MY birthday?) but their sushi is great too, I've had it before. I'm gonna see if they also have Unagi Don since you recommend it. I like Miso soup too.

I occasionally will spend the extra cash and eat at the Fuji Steakhouse in the mall. I love that place. Their hibachi New York steak is amazing.

Let me add that this is the only place I have been known to tip. That is how much I like it.

Hmm....as a waitstaff member, owner/operator who has to pay waitstaff members, etc., I don't like this line at all. But I will refrain.

There's a Korean-American BBQ on the Blvd. called Sue-Kye's Fucking Great ribs. Although the Korean Bulgogi is better. Fuck, I love that place.

Can't think of the name of the place. But it used to be called PEKING. It's at the intersection of Logan and Pleasant Valley.
