Harry Connick, Jr. Who listens to him?

Post by f.sciarrillo »

I have been listening to this guy a lot lately. I like his style, he has some pretty funky stuff.

Anyone else like him?

I don't own anything by him, but I've always thought that he was quite a talented vocalist and pianist.

this time of the year...everyone.
Harry is an incredibly talented singer and pianist in my opinion and I think his jazz stuff is great...but he could do to lay off of the holiday cheese factor a little bit.

My old lead singer loves him.
Pour me another one, cause I'll never find the silver lining in this cloud.

yeah the Christmas stuff, I like his versions of the classics cause he does have that jazzy thing happening. I haven't really tried much of his other stuff but probably should.....

She and Star Turtle are outstanding.

The Christmas album has some of the best jazz and big band arrangements ever written for traditional holiday songs. He does a song called "It Must Have Been Ol' Santa Clause" and the New Orleans second line groove is old school N'Awlins greasy funk. The more classically influenced songs are done in a more swing/bebop style which makes them a little more catchy. There are some dull moments with the few ballads though.

I also recommend Brian Setzer's Boogie Woogie Christmas. If you like big band style screaming trumpet licks and a swinging rhythm section, both these guys have it.

Yes, I agree that Brian Setzer is pretty good also.
