Nirvana had that 4th mexican guy who you could never hear that just bounced around.
Laugh if you want to, really is kinda funny, 'cause the world is a car and you're the crash test dummy.

I think you mean Pat Smear. He was also on the first two Foo Fighters albums too if I can remember correctly.
"He's the electric horseman, you better back off!" - old sKool making a reference to the culturally relevant 1979 film.

Does anybody remember a very cool power trio project called B.L.T. that Robin Trower did along with Jack Bruce and Bill Lordan? They did one album together in 1981. The single from the album was called Into Money.

Two other 3 piece bands in the same mode as U.K. was a Canadian band called FM and the German band, Triumvirat.

I forgot to mention the 3 piece band - Glass Harp with Phil Keaggy on guitar. He is amazing.

Creedence Clearwater Revival became a 3 piece band in 1971 after Tom Fogerty left.

Switchfoot started out as a 3 piece band.

In the early 80's, I got to see a great jazz fusion trio consisting of Allan Holdsworth (guitar), Jeff Berlin (bass), and Chad Wackerman (drums)

Doh! I was thinking of something else lol. The thought of them not having bass player made me think they were 3-piece.. Scratch them from the list ..

Haha, yeah it made me think for a second there!

Speaking of them not having a bass player, were there any other successful bands that did not have one?

Did anyone mention Mountain. The lineup I saw in 73 was Leslie West, Corky Laing and Felix Papilardi.
