thanks for site, I was quoting just what I heard through the grape vine. The volt sounds even better than the talk up I got :)

And before anyone reads that post above about the speeding, please note that the pinecroft run was done at 4am hardly anyone on the roads, anyone I did pass I did at less than twenty mph or less differential speed. I try not to involve anyone else in my stupidity ;)

Also i'm not your average boy racer cruising the blvd. I have just over 63 hours of professional training and well over 200 hours of at-speed track time. My car, I can safely bet, is in better shape than just about anyones daily driver that you trust the life of your children to. :)

the volt seems pretty cool, actually. looks good (if that was it in the upper left on that link). it's a shame it's gonna be around the 30,000 dollar mark, though. anyone remember how much the chevette cost right off the lot??

Remember the days not too long ago when we bitched about gas being $1.69? It's funny, because the oil barrons now have us trained to think, "wow, $3.55 is a great price for gas" and we quickly fill up before it goes up again.

I am very careful to remind myself each time I pull up to the pump that I'm not getting a good deal, unless of course you consider getting effed in the A a good deal.

That, my friend, is the real marketing genius behind the petro-fuel industry. It's not even close to being free-market. If it were, gasoline would be much lower, now that crude is free-falling and demand is way down. Remember Katrina? The price shot up from $2-ish to $3-ish in a week. Then they got the Gulf back up and running, but it only dropped back to $2.50. When folks complained of possible gouging, Exxon/Mobil CEO Lee Raymond was on Meet The Press saying America was being unfair to his company, and nobody cried when they were only making a few hundred million per quarter. Well, now they make tens of billions per quarter, and Lee got a $400 million-dollar going away present for his 6 years as CEO. Hmmm, where is all that money going?...--->JMS

My '93 Mazda 4-cylinder pickup makes the trip from S.C. to Bellwood in under 45 minutes. That's as hard as I'm pushing it, I'm built for comfort not for speed.
Actually, I figured out about a year into my driving career that: 1) I cannot afford to hot-rod, and 2) I am the easily the most accident-prone person I know, and I can generally get away with tempting fate for about .03 seconds before getting a "life lesson."

I do really like foreign-made compact pickups, though not the Mazda so much. It's geared pretty low... I've never had it above 75mph that I can remember, but it LOVES to climb mountains. I particularly like the winding road from Queen to Blue Knob State Park, and my favorite is the road from just past the Quehanna Boot Camp down the mountain to the Sinnemahoning (is it Kyper Road? I can't remember...). Apparently a lot of other people like it, too, there are always bikes zipping both up and down. Those light 4wd's just eat that stuff up, and cost practically nothing.--->JMS

I always wanted to get a Dodge D-50 and slap a 4g63 motor in it and have a drift truck...

Trucks are cool. I just can't bring myself to own one.

My days of speed are long gone, maybe its time to just buy that diesel pickup truck that I saw at the chevy dealership.. Run it on grease and propane :)

Who made those? Mitsubishi?
I've heard that Mazda makes the Ford Ranger, and my old Chevy LUV was Isuzu-made, if I'm recalling correctly.
My favorite truck ever was my '90 Nissan SEV6. It was the first year for the Hardbodies, I believe, before they called them that. Man, that thing was a born rock-crawler. The low-range was soooooo low, but I never really needed it. The big fun was putting it in 4th gear and just making every curvy mountain road my bitch. A 6-cyl in a truck that light was just TOO fun. Of all the vehicles I've had, I wish I'd kept that one. They're total sleepers, it looked like something an old man would drive (and did!). --->JMS

Ford owns Mazda actually, and I believe they still own Land Rover, and Jaguar also.

yeah, ford makes mazda, hence the escape and tribute are the same SUV, but they no longer own jaguar and land rover, ford sold both of those to an Indian company named TATU. and I think you're right songsmith, that was a joint venture between chevy and isuzu.

HAHAHAHAHAHA! Billy Bob took real good care of that car. Top Gear is a great program.

As for mazda - I never understood that if it is owned by ford why it is sold at a chevy dealership.

I never paid much attention to be honest, but that is kinda weird now that you mention it.
