Gas is $3.45 here ..
I wonder how much lower it will go before it sky rockets back up? I know - It will drop until the elections are over so each party can take credit for it, then it will shoot up to $10.00 a gallon to make up for what it lost in the process. Some one get the alternate fuel vehicles on the market now !

Someone at the Sheetz in Frostburg screwed up last night and made mid-grade gas $2.64 a gallon for a while. I filled mine up and called everyone I know. I'd have taken a 50 gallon barrel with me if I'd known about it before I got there.
Pour me another one, cause I'll never find the silver lining in this cloud.
Nice, for some reason the price of mid grade and premium vary wildly. You would think that its $0.10 more for midgrade than regular, and $0.10 more for premium than midgrade, but that rarely seems to be the case anymore. A couple gas stations in the altoona area had regular for $3.49 and premium for $3.99. Thats more than most of the usually overpriced stations around here have it.Merge wrote:Someone at the Sheetz in Frostburg screwed up last night and made mid-grade gas $2.64 a gallon for a while. Actually been tuning the car to run nicely on E-85, but that is about as expensive as the 93 I have to put in when you factor the reduction in MPG with E-85. But it seems you can squeeze a few more HP out of E-85 right in that grey area that 93 normally gives up and gives a knock or two.
I'll do anything to offset the cost of oil by raising the cost of food.
If Chevy brings the Volt to market in 2010-2011 like they say, thats my next ride.
Along with a $30,000 upgrade to the house to add solar panels and take real control of my energy future.. Right around the price-cap removal time, Jan 1, 2010... If the neighbors don't bitch, I'll put up a wind turbine just for the giggles of it

2 questions for you, first, where can you get E-85 around here, I didn't think we had any fill stations in the area. And 2, are you running a high boost/compression application that you're worrying about the knock that 93 gives you? just wondering.

wow, it's an STI, or was it a rex that you converted? those are bad ass cars. My bassist has a Rex that pumps about 350 horses at the wheels, it's flippin' insane, I personally love those cars!JackANSI wrote:mini mart on north Atherton. Although they aren't sure about keeping it.
Yes, my car has special needs ;). Wrx, STI 2.5L engine, 9.1:1 CP pistons, and a 18G turbo. Bunches of other stuff that's OT.
Cars by far my favorite thing in the world.

anyone see the ford escape hybrid? 32 mpg in town. amazing for a suv to get that. expecially compared to the chevy suburban hybrid. a wopping 20 mpg on the highway. most excellent that gm is attempting to compete with the ford and toyota hybrids. i wish i could haul equipment in a prius
who wouldn't want 45 mpg to get to shows? looks like right now the escape is musician's best choice with hybrids that needs something to haul a half stack or drum shit in. someday though we'll all be running around like mad max in road warrior. that movie is the shit. "give up the oil and we'll let you live!!"
i love mad max
and that car was the shit. anyone know what it was? vauxhall?

damn, i was just going to answer that question for you...i got to see a replica of that car(no one knows what happened to the real one used the the movie if i remember correctly) and it's awesome looking! the aussie's know how to build cars, the new GTO is a Holden Monaro, and the new ford falcon from over there is bad ass too!slackin@dabass wrote:answered my own question (i love the internet!) it was '73 xb gt ford falcon coupe with a concord front end. the car was exclusive to austrailia and that front end was aftermarket. sorryfor the randomness!!

No this is a 2002, converted. The sleeved motor that's going in the car this coming spring is being assembled with a goal of 500 - 550whp in mind with a minimum of 300 ftlbs by 3000 rpm and keeping at least that till redline at 7600. Probably go for a safe 400whp for daily driving.
The motor in the car now is just to test and prepare me for being able to tune that thing. Most I've wrung out of it on a dyno so far was 302whp before the turbo ran out of guts. I'm completely addicted to the whistle of a turbo.

turbo whine is such a great sound, not to mention the BOV, it's soooo creamy. and isn't nice to know that all 500 ponies are getting to all four corners!? I'm pretty sure my bassist has the stock turbo in it, and that's about all that's the same, but he already has the .60 trim spool to go in once he upgrades the fuel system.JackANSI wrote:No this is a 2002, converted. Are you goin' to turn this one into a rocket car as well?JackANSI wrote:

Rob's car sounds like a jet starting up....and then taking off...then getting to
Shippensburg in record time (Where, incidentally, gas was $3.45).

Well the Volt is a plug-in hybrid, the gas engine is only a generator.. a 1.0L 3-cyl turbocharged generator, but one none the lessVENTGtr wrote:Are you goin' to turn this one into a rocket car as well?JackANSI wrote:

I have no idea where to start to make that thing any faster, except maybe a diesel-electric train traction motor converted to some insane high ratio gearing...
hmm....
Only two records I'm really proud of is the Altoona-State College run and my massive speeding ticket (two seperate events)..
From the Pinecroft on-ramp of I-99 to the Arby's in downtown State in 23:30... Before the new highway was even built..
The ticket was on Pine Hall Rd. On the ticket notes it reads: "Suspect's vehicle was travelling to fast to measure. Pursued at 120mph +" I saw the cop about 1/2-3/4 mile behind me with his lights on, so I pulled over (he got me fair and square) I had to wait about 30-40 seconds for him to finally pull up behind me. I believe I was doing about 135-140 at the time I blew past him.
God those were the days...

i made it from beaver stadium to logan beverage in 25 minutes once. give or take a few seconds. pinecroft to arbies? holy. shit.
i dunno about the chevy hybrids, man. i mean... look at the suburban hybrid. it gets an amazing
20 mpg. right now, hands down, the ford escape/mazda whateveritis get like 32 mpg. not bad for an suv. i guess we'll have to wait till 2010-11 to see what kind of shit our american car companies try to shove onto us. bet it won't even compare to the prius at that point.

I been reading a lot on the volt. It does look pretty cool. if used properly, you will never use gas with it ... And if you are like me and go back and fourth to state college every day to work; you will only have to fill up about one a month. Now that I can dig ...
It actually is said to take 6.5 hours to charge on a 110 volt and 3 hours on a 220 volt.
