Drummer get together ON at the studio the 13th
Hawk,
No I did not get in touch with the gentleman from J-town. I was thinking future reference with him, but I can contact him now. It may be too short of notice for this Sunday....we'll see. I think that Dave is going to record the clinic. If it turns out OK, I'm sure he would enable us to get copies of it.

I'll be up in Fisherman's Paradise from 6am till 12pm and even though I don't play drums I was gonna go. You can never know too much info, even if you don't use it.
And I was going to go back up that way after the clinic to hit Colyer Lake for some bass (the fish).
there should be plenty of room for a tom and stuff if you wanted to take them, but I doubt a whole kit would fit.
If you can't find any other transport, just make sure I know by 5pm friday, and I fish rain or shine.

Haha! I'm stoked Jack is given me a ride!
Clint...Im bringing my DW "12. Its got brand new heads. Should we all have them tensioned to just past wrinkle? I'm excited man. It will be great meeting you and the others in the flesh!
Hawk....sorry for my poor manners! Thank you VERY much for the DVD!
Since you've got new heads on the drum and I'm assuming they're Evans or Remo, you may want to tighten both heads to a point a little tighter than where you'll play them, making sure of course that all the pitches at each lug point on the heads are the same. I'll go over that at the clinic for those of you who are unsure about this, but Steve, I'm sure you know what I'm talking about. This will allow the heads to stretch out a bit, seat themselves properly on the bearing edge and help the heads to STAY in tune once the fine tuning process is complete. If you just have new heads on the drum tuned just past wrinkle without stretching them out a bit, that's OK, but the heads may detune quickly as soon as they're played on.
Leave the drum alone for a few hours or even overnight. At this point, the drum will be ready to fine tune, finding the sweet spot and determining what the relative tension between top and bottom heads should be. Once I begin to demonstrate this at the clinic, the drum I will be demonstrating this on will have the heads tuned a little tighter than where they will end up too, so we'll be on the same page. Know what I mean?
It will be great meeting all of you in the flesh as well. I've been wanting to do something like this for a long time and I hope that you all find it to be a worthwhile experience at the end of it all. Save up all your questions and hit me with them Sunday, I'm stoked as well!!
Thank you drummers!
To all who attended the drummer's get together, I just wanted to say "thank you" for allowing me to present the information to you all. It was wonderful to meet you all and I was truly humbled by your kindness and attentiveness to the presentation. I hope that it came across in a way that was educational and inspirational, and that you learned some things that will help you become a better drummer and become more intimate with your drums and their sound. Please please please let me know your experiences with your tuning, good and bad, and contact me if you have any further questions or concerns.
Steve, it was great meeting you, sorry I didn't recognize you right off the bat...my bad!
Bobby, please let me know how your drums sound tonight at Shaw's. That's a tough room to get a good sound in, I hope the tuning of your drums works out well there. Hawk, thanks for your questions and your insight to tuning through your experiences. It was helpful and further proved the points about tuning in intervals (minor thirds
). Again, thank you all for coming today, it was truly a pleasure for me and I look forward to hearing about your endeavors.
Clint

Thanks for a great and informative day everyone. The toms sounded fantastic tonite despite the room Clint, after the first break i tweaked them a little and they stayed in till the end of the night. Thanks again Drum Doctor!!, nothing like the feel of perfectly tuned kit. Friday is a pretty big show for us and the PA will be one of the biggest we ever played on so im so glad to have this done.
I also noticed at low volume how good the tom sound was when we would bring it down....goosebumps!

COOLLL!!! I'm glad they sounded good for you man, that's awesome. If you are a little concerned about how your drums ended up by the end of the night and whether or not they're primed for your gig on Friday, PM me or call and we'll tweak 'em back up to where they sound good to you again. They're probably pretty close though right now, so I'll leave it up to you man. If you just go with it, please let us know how it worked out through the big PA system. I'm anxious to hear how that will turn out.Hurricane wrote:Thanks for a great and informative day everyone. Yeah, it's all been said already, but what a great day! Thanks to Clint and Dave and also to those folks that came a long way to attend.
Bill, are we allowed to have this much fun?
So, I'll bet that the DVD has a loud humming noise all the way through... you know, that subsonic hum that's present whenever there are 2 or more drummers standing in close proximity? I'm sure that with the number of us there that day, we changed the angle of Earth's axis!
Steve, that Dunnett snare sounded sweet, and I only got to hear 2 or 3 notes. I'd love to hang out sometime. I'd really like to hear that drum full-on when you're playing. Let me know when that might be, and best wishes on your new project!
Rob, you were missed! It's especially bad that you weren't there now that Steve thinks I'm the class clown!! heheheh
Clint, all the educational stuff aside, it was really good to see you after so many years. I was literally just a kid when I saw you last. I'm not any taller, but a good bit older! Great job, brother!

It was great to see you too man. You look the same, haven't aged a bit. There were some beautiful instruments there on Sunday and I apologize if you brought a drum and I wasn't able to get with you to talk tuning and stuff one on one. We needed more time! Anyway, you know how to reach me. Thanks again everyone, it was a blast!randydrummer wrote: Clint, all the educational stuff aside, it was really good to see you after so many years. Hey, Clint! Nope, you didn't leave me hanging at all. But, there was one thing I forgot to mention to you. I thought the coolest thing you guys in The Front had going on, was the way you had spot lights aimed at your cymbals! Your cymbals were perfectly flat and when you would hit them, your lighting guy would flash those spots and the audience was blinded! It was so friggin' awesome!! It was nice enough that you could play, but man, that stage presentation was the sh**!!
If anyone is interested. I picked up a small (fits on a key chain) electronic pitch pipe (just push a button) at Ford Music Store.
It's called "Pocket Tones". Cones C to C or F to F. The F to F goes lower so I got that one. You might call to see what stock they have, 943 8520.
Retails for $14.95. You can probably get a discount on that. I haven't tried it yet, buit I know it will work.

Wow, that's good to know as you don't really get to see how the presentation comes off in the audience from behind the kit. I'll have to suggest that to the lighting crew the next time we use one. I still play my cymbals flat so it should still work! Thanks for mentioning that man!randydrummer wrote:Hey, Clint! Nope, you didn't leave me hanging at all.
