Risking the chance of something getting lobbed at my head...

My attention is held any time I hear Dueling Banjos. Don't ask me... yes...Deliverance runs through my head almost immediately (believe it or not, I've never seen that movie)...but just the harmonies with in the duel. Good lord.

The other one is Steel Guitar Rag (Steel Guitar Blues?) something like that. My Daddy used to play that for me and it had me in awe. It was the major reason I picked up a guitar in the first place. I've yet to ever do it successfully, but it's on the "things to do before I die" list. It's also where I got my saying from...it was what he'd say when he got done playing it, my jaw of course on the ground. "I play well enough to amuse myself." Ain't that the truth, dad, ain't that the truth. I play well enough just to amuse myself...Lord I'm amused...

Somebody actually requested Dueling Banjos at my gig the other night. My SOLO acoustic gig. It's not much of a duel if only one guy is there. So, as a joke, I played part of it. Da-da-DING-da-DING-da-ding-da-DINGGGG. Then dead silence. Da-da-DING-da-DING-da-ding-da-DINGGG. Silence again. Kind of like a conversation where only one person's talking out loud, and the other one's just thinking his part. I get a lot of weird requests, because I'll play old country, but wow. I also got my first request for a blues song... Leave My Little Girl Alone, by Buddy Guy... then of course they thought I knew every SRV song ever written... if I could play like that, I wouldn't be alone in a bar on Saturday night with 10 people in the audience! Eh, it still beats digging a ditch for a living.---->JMS

Kim Mitchell ROCKS!!! Chucklehead used to do Go for a Soda by him - what a GREAT tune - anyone remember that one? I used to give a beer to anyone who could name the song and artist when we played it, and I was surprised by how many people remembered the tune, and some would even sing along! TOO COOL! I used to LOVE playing that tune......

wow,Kim Mitchell,I did'nt think anyone down here ever heard of him,anyone ever hear him and Rush do "Battlescar"together?Another great cover song from a Canadian band we used to cover with Ozone Rangers was "New Orleans Is Sinking" by The Tragically Hip,cool little guitar riff on that one.Also,hate to correct ya J.Mike but I'm fairly sure the name of the bar in lager and ale is the "Ball Jar Grille",I used to sing that one and I borrowed the lyrics from Kim's album

Try playing Retro's set once. As long as you stay in the same position on the neck with a song, you really don't have to look down too much at all the entire night.

Lose Yourself - Eminem...took me about three weeks (of listening to nothing else) to learn it, and another two months to do it without thinking about it.

We rocked it up and it actually slams...I guess any skeptics would have to hear it for themselves.
