About Ray...
Ray has never mixed our band but we played on his kf850 system last year. He understands the importance of allowing bands to use their own FOH engineers. Ray definately has one of the better rigs at the thunder in the valley.
To be polite, I will simply not comment on the expereinces I've had with the *other* sound providers at thunder in the valley.

I actually haven't had the chance to work with too many actual sound men before. However, I have worked with Zilly ( it's a shame though that it probably won't ever happen again) and he is the man! I have never heard anything sound better. The other was the guy who worked the benefit which Full Kilt, Beyond Reason, Atomic Blonde, and The Red Arrow played two weeks ago @ The Oriental. I never did catch the guys name, but dude definatly had his shit together. It was refreshing.

Thank you sir, I appreciate your kind words, I still have a lot to learn, but I guess it's not bad considering I've only been running sound for about 4-5 months... But thank you, it's bands like you guys and FedUp and some of the touring bands that i run that are so good that I really don't have to do anything to make you sound great.Bloodsong wrote: Kyle Mayket is an up and comer as well....

Before Mike Dublin had his problem with alcohol, he was arguably the best soundman around. I think other soundmen in the area who knew Mike would agree. God bless Mike as he's since passed away at the age of 42 years old. I was in a band called "The Toyz" and Mike just started to run sound. He and I were adamant about getting a good drum sound, so we would set up in the clubs, and sometimes we'd be playing there for a few days in a row, so we would just go in in the afternoon and just drum check and mess with sounds and settings and gates and stuff. We really were getting great sounds after a while 'cause that's all we did all day. Mike moved on and ran sound for Hybrid Ice for a long time. He also worked with Claar bros. out of Philly, but was fired because he was drinking too much. That was the beginning of the end for Mike.tom wrote:When I was a youngster 'coming up' I always looked to guys like Mike Dublin, Ritt, & Zilly...
Learned alot from Rockpage Ron as well
I heard Hybrid Ice one night a year or two after Mike had moved on and they sounded really good. Beautiful mix and all the balls and punch you could stand. He was great and a sweetheart of a guy. I sure do miss Mike, he was a good friend.
I've had the honour of having sound done extremely well from quite a few folks that have already been mentioned. Mike Dublin was there for quite awhile and I never, ever heard the comment "uhhh, sounds kinda bad". Beautiful guy. Rockpage Ron, Greg Stager, Brian McConnell, Zilly, Don Verderame, Phil Reigh, Steve Shutt, Mike Feight, Sean Hocherl, and I'm sure I'm unintentionally forgetting a few. I always felt safe with their ears!
Hey thanks for attending the benefit, The Red Arrow Band donated the Sound and lighting for the event. Our Guitar Player Jim Smith and his wife Gene ran sound. Jim has ran sound for some of the top names in the business. They are available to do events give them a shot, they are hard working folks with alot of experence. Lee Worthy
Chris Knapik
Zilly
Lee Worthy ran sound for us at 4Dees our second time playing there, and we sounded like a CD in every corner of the bar. His side stage lights came pretty close to giving my guitar players and I a sun burn, but the lights were amazing and we had an incredible mix.
We run our own sound for most of our shows, and our PA system is pretty nice. Our lead guitarist Ricky normally does most of the setting up process because he knows the PA inside and out, and when he sets the sound for the band he does a great job of mixing everything before the show.

Ray Buksa has always been great to work with for our band. He always treated us with very well and worked closely to make sure we were happy with the front mix and monitor mix as well as he and his crew are very professional to deal with. I have recommended Ray to several venues and events. We will be working with him again this year at Thunder In The Valley and I look forward to that knowing he will be behind the board. Ray is a great guy.
I second just about everyone that's been mentioned so far, I've worked with several, George Powell is great... Dave Defilipis (sp?) from the King Cotton Rounders has done sound for Sweetwater several times and does a great job. Another guy who is a little further out of the area (Bloomsburg/Berwick area) is Jeff Knorr and Cobra Sound. They specialize in acoustic music, and they are (IMHO) the best in the business when it comes to that. Amplifying acoustic instruments well without losing sound quality is a real art, and Jeff, along with his dad Bob and friend Mark Doncheski make a great case for Cobra Sound.

Oh, yeah! Cobra does a hell of a job, and Sav's right, acoustic music through a big, outdoor PA is difficult to say the least. You have to take little, quiet audio, and turn it into big, loud audio that's not "too loud."sav wrote:I second just about everyone that's been mentioned so far, I've worked with several, George Powell is great... Also...Kyle can run lights like no other. More than half the bands that roll through, Kyle hasn't even heard of, but he can put a light show to every one of their songs and make it all look computer programmed.

Thank you
Thank you to Flood City Brass and rickw for the kind words. I didn't expect to find my name on this list. I don't do bar gigs anymore, so many of the guys don't know me. I really appreciate the sentiments.
