I agree with that part. Someone needs to drive with the precious cargo on board. But if neither parent can control themselves long enough to apoint a DD, then children's services needs to be summoned. No excuse for drinking with kids in the car. I'm a Sambora fan but this incident with him pisses me off.

But just because a bar has a kitchen doesn't make it a restaurant. And there are game rooms and arcades around if you want to shoot pool with a kid.

As for the cursing in bars goes, it's really a common sense thing. I dont think anyone should stand around saying, "eff" every third word no matter where you go, but as I've told my dear old mother when she's shown up in bars for our gigs in the past, "Mom, this is why we do outdoor festivals in the summer, so you can come see us." And that's not because we use a butt load of profanity on stage, it's because of the clientele.

If we play, for example, a private club (Legion, VFW, Moose, etc.) and there's an older membership in the venue early, we're careful about song selection with "EFFs" in the lyrics. As the night goes on and the crowd becomes "younger," things loosen up a bit.

Of course, IMO, I don't really see the need for constant cursing from a band on stage. I've seen bands do it and I know it turns some people off, but at the same time, I don't think you have to be a complete prude about using profanity.

It really depends on the place, the crowd and the management.

Constant cussing on stage i agree with not having. My issue was with outlawing "bad words" in a bar. Those people are there to feed their addiction to alcohol. Sometimes that leads to having a great time, sometimes it leads to the guy going home and beating the shit out of his wife and kids.
I couldnt own a bar, because id be thinking of that kind of stuff. those damn morals again.

I know in some cases it's artistically part of the song, and some musicians might have a hard time letting go. But to simply spew out obscenities because it's cool is actually really lame. As a musician and a performer you should always take your audience into consideration. It would sure be a shame to drop a few words early in the show and have the crowd and club owner turned off for the rest of the night. Good luck getting booked after that!! I have started several shows where parents were finishing a meal, while the kids were there listening. It would have been irresponsible to set such a bad example.
I remember Scream playing at a "family" type outdoor show in McVeytown and playing Lit Up by Buckcherry. Seeing Hoover singing "I love the cookies, I love those cookies" and laughing about it was funny as hell.

As far as swearing goes, I can curse with the best (worst?) of em. But there's a time and a place for it. Someone that drops the "F bomb" every other word, out in public, makes themselves look very unintelligent. I see nothing wrong with Lisa asking her customers to tone it down a bit. I've had to do the same where I work.

What's that got to do with swearing? I can feed my addiction without swearing every other word. And USUALLY without annoying everyone else.

I just got the bad impression...the first impression... of a few bands from here and from myspace based on what they type. How they promote their shows, etc. If the promotion is dropping the f'bomb, I tend to stay away from booking them.

We don't allow anyone under 21 in for bands. The only exception we make is on our comedy show nights. There are some bad words that come out of the comedians and we label the show adult content. But if a parent wants to make the decision to bring in a minor who can handle it, we allow it. The adult minor (yes, it is possible to be an adult minor) may stay for the band who may be playing after the comedy show.

We do not 'ban' profanity. We only control it. And because we control it, its hard to book bands who leave a first impression of a band who may have excessive usage of the terms.

This flies in the face of everything you've been saying about bands and profanity. I've seen a lot of comedy and live music in my day and I've never, EVER heard ANY band use as much profanity and sexual innnuendo as stand up comics do.

But you let kids in for comedy as long as the parents think they can handle it? That's the biggest double standard I've heard in a while.

alot of people can do that. i usually never hear anyone gettin all "fuck fuck fuck fuck" at a bar. someone who doesnt know any other words besides "profanity" shouldnt go outside their house. My orig issue was outlawing "bad words" in a bar completely.
anything can be an addiction. everyone has addictions whether they wanna admit it or not. such as: cigs, drugs, alcohol, coffee, soda, sex, masturbation, watching ninja warrior, and all sorts of other stuff. i even have a few of those myself.

I can't believe any band would prosper by advertising like..."Hey you fuckin cocksuckers! Come the fuck out and party with Green fuckin Eggs! We'll fuckin knock you on your fuckin asses!" :o

Crap, I probably just wrote Bad Daze's next flyer.

You've not been to a lot of comedy shows then. There are all types of comedians. There is some "adult language" but we get wonderful comedians in who do not feel the need to drop the f-bomb all the time. Have you ever heard Bill Cosby swear? He's one of the best you can find in the business and has made alot of money from it. How much do you hear Foxworthly swear? I don't think I've ever heard him swear. How about Drew Carey?

Some of the best comedians can do shows with or without it depending on the crowd that is sitting on the other side of the lights.

I've never said that we prohibit it completely. We only say that it is something we try to curtail. And if I saw a comedian who drops the fbomb in their own promotion of the show, I would ask them not to come. It just sets a bad image...if its like that during first impressions, it would only get worse.

No double standard.

Hey do what you want, but dont do it around me.
Idleness and dissipation breed apathy.
I sit on my ass all goddamn day,
A misanthropic anthropoid with nothing to
Say what you must, do all you can,
Break all the fucking rules and
Go to hell with superman and
Die like a champion, yeah hey!
Hey I dont know if the billions will survive,
But Ill believe in God when 1 and 1 are 5.
My moniker is man and Im rotten to the core.
Ill tear down the building just to pass through the door.
So do what you must, do all you can,
Break all the fucking rules and
Go to hell with superman and
Die like a champion, yeah hey!

Here's why people who aren't musicians go to bars:

Swear/Lie /Smoke/Get some ass/ and get wasted.

But ultimately you should do what ever you feel like.

You tell me not to swear and I'll tell you what a fucking idiot you are though.

The Altruistic bar, Where the beer is made from holy water, and you can get a BJ in the parking lot from your buddies wife then confess your sins to our ordained bartenders.

PS. Don't hire fedup for your kids fucking Bar Mitzvah.

Do Cosby, Carey and Foxworthy play at your place often? These guys don't do an inordinate amount of stand up these days, at least I don't think and I know I've heard Foxworthy and Carey both use the F-bomb during performance.

I've seen lots of stand up over many, many years all along the eastern seaboard. If it's circuit performers playing little bar stops, they're cussin'. That's the way it is. You book through an agency, right? You get who they send and you basically find out what their routine is all about when they're doing it on your "stage." (hehehe, I said, "doing it on your stage ... )

Would love to have them at my bar...but they started in bars at one time. When did I say that our comedians never swear? But they shows are not loaded with them.

No, actually, I don't book through an agency. I have a friend who I work with. He personally knows each comedian. He's done many shows with each of them. He knows their style and he knows who would do well at our place and who wouldn't. Most of our comedians have myspace, and/or other websites promoting their shows. None of them have used the fbomb in their promotions. So you know very little of how our management handles things.

And no, we probably wouldn't book fed up for a bar mitzvah or any event at our place. Not that they aren't good...they are very good. But they don't suit our environment and venue.

And no, I would say I do not have any addictions.

We played in place in Mifflin that had an upside down umbrella hanging from the ceiling. If the barmaid heard the F-bomb she'd point to it and say ,"Pay up!." (It cost $5.00)... I saw one guy let it slip and she pointed and made her statement. He throwed a $20 up there...She replyed, "We don't give change." He said, "That's OK, I still have 2 F__Ks coming to me!" :P And that was a cool idea that no one minded because it got donated to the next local child that was in need of medical ect help..Good Idea!

I can swear with the best of them too but like Bag and Somgsmith were getting at: "There's a place for it and place not for it." I deal with the public at work and many engineers and higher ups in the company so I can turn it on and off when needed. I rarely even swear on here. I do onstage only like stated, As a crowd booster "energy" (laser-less!) Or describing something good. Like troop dedication ect. I never say it so much I didnt know it comes out. Even when I use it alittle, I feel it, and almost everytime think before it comes out. (If its the proper spot to use)..We too play Legions/VFW's so we censor songs...IE "She REALLY hates me!"..

See, that's a bar that is trying to clean it up somewhat by making light joking out of it. We don't get down right serious to the point that we are picking up 300 pound men by their belts and tossing them out to the parking lot...(what a great picture though). But we are asking some to curtail it some when need. We have threatened one the other night that he may have to leave if he can't leave the cuss words to a minimum...only because he became very disrespectful.

I think you took my post too personally. I didn't even know you were jewish.

My point is "to each their own."

My music is angry so I use angry words. I don't want my music to be accessed by disillusioned numbnuts who think everything is "just dandy".

I've turned down shows in "family Friendly" environments. Ask Hawk, he'll tell you. I believe there is a time and a place where big boys and girls can let go and vent their frustrations. I call that place a bar. Didn't you do a wet t-shirt contest up there before?
