I'm sorry if you don't understand critique vs opinion. Basically what I'm saying is that before you run your mouth about anyone's talent, you should have some talent yourself.

I dont care what anyone says, If a band changes clothes and their look during a show...it IS gay. i dont think it has anything to do with lights. if it did, one of the guys wouldnt have put a sweater on. anyway, yeah, ive played on stage with lights that were hot. i dealt with it. youre playing a show. youre gonna get sweaty. thats one reason you take your break.
i havent ever seen a band change clothes on a set break before, but if that happened @ a show i was at, id leave. bands that concentrate too much on looking "hip" and "in style" bother me. just my opinion. i wear what i wear when i wear it. music has nothing to do with image for me. ive never said about a band "man these guys suck, but goddamn they are dressed nice".
i usually never notice what clothes dudes in bands are wearing unless they look like they grabbed something off the fruit rack.

oh well, thats it. :D

SpellBound returns. I'm not looking for fights, I'm not mentally two-years-old ... but people like you think it's just fine and dandy to spout hate and bullshit and also think you have the right to. This is not your personal playground. This is Ron's site. You were permitted to return with the promise of acting like an adult.

Promises, promises.

Oh yeah. I was always sad. I used to shed a little tear, out in the parking lot in somebody else's car, with a pretty girl's face in my lap.
I always thought the sad ones were the guys boozing it up, acting like a-holes and ignoring the hot girls they came in with... you know, the guys whose car and girlfriend I was borrowing.
Originally, I did it for the love of the music. Then I found out that some women are attracted to musicians, even local ones. I learned that you don't need to be handsome (I'm not) or have money (I was practically homeless), or even need to be good at what you do (still working on that one). Some women are attracted to the notoriety that comes with being in a band, I think they project the "rebel" image they love onto some poor schlub who's spent the last 5 years in his bedroom with a guitar on his knee... the woman lives a fantasy on some small level, and the guitar dork gets laid. It's a win-win, whether or not it's really real.
I had a great time. I hooked up with some pretty girls who matured to become nice women, and we have those naughty memories of our golden days. Shallow? Well, obviously, but if you're under 25, you're not making many trips to the deep end of the pool yet, anyway. It was what it was. Funner than hell.
Plus, I learned a lot from those women. When I was 22, I hooked up with a 36-year-old divorcee who taught me... well, let's just say a 22-year-old guy can learn a LOT from a 36-year-old divorced woman. I had no idea. -------->JMS

If anybody asks "what the fuck happened here?". I edited out the post. As I told Rob in PM... I really didn't expect the backlash that this generated, and while I will not retract my personal opinion -- I will atleast show the stones to admit it should probably not have been done as brash as it was. So now it's gone. That's it. It's done.

Oh, and I used to change clothes sometimes. Never into a sweater, though.
I don't see how clothing fashion is any different than tattoos & piercings, though. The ankle-to-ears tattoo has been kinda played, I think. When you take off your shirt to show your tats, who are you showing them to?
It's a relative thing. The fashion you adhere to today will become passe. It wasn't THAT long ago you weren't cool onstage without bicycle shorts and a painter hat with the bill bent upright. (Yikes!) I have a shoebox full of pictures I don't want most people to see, pics featuring Songy decked out in such finery as metallic yellow spandex with the word, "trash" on the leg, three T-shirts at once, each one shredded with a razor blade so the other colors show through, too-small jeans dappled with chlorine-bleach stains, and embarrassing hats I thought were funny at the time. The bottom line is, you will all one day look at your current onstage gear and giggle. Sorry to burst your bubble. ------->JMS

Actually, I don't care if someone swaps clothes. Can't see havin' an issue
with it, but if it adds to the atmosphere of the their show and works for them,
more power to 'em. A SWEATER....geez. I'm temperaturely retarded and
that just sounds too hot...in a temperature-type way.

I've known people who play solely for free booze, so playing just for girls...
not so out of the question. Where's Justin stand on this?

Rob, I couldn't disagree more. First of all, opinions and criticism are one in the same. Just two different words. So if I'm understanding you right, you're saying that if someone is not a lifelong musician, then he has no right to state his feelings on a group or artist. What about someone that has been an avid music fan for forty years. He doesn't have enough experience or credibility to critique?
A criticism is an opinion but an opinion is not always a criticism. Everyone's going to have an opinion. If they didn't have an opinion, they'd love every band and every song out there. That's something that every musician is going to have to accept: There are going to be people who love what you do and there are going to be people who don't like what you do for whatever reason. I'm sure the cats in Green Eggs realize this.

I do agree with Rob that there does come credibility attached to a criticism. I'm not say that a non-musician has an invalid opinion, but should I really put the drunk guy's opinion on the same level as the opinion of the first call Nashville session musician or the 30-year veteran sound engineer or the person with a doctorate in music composition? Sure, these people can peddle bullshit just as much as anyone else, but there's a better chance that they actually know what they're talking about. A lot of people who don't play think that "bass is easier than guitar because it only has four strings." It's safe to say that these people don't have a frikken clue. Again, the analogy I always use is that I'm not going to give my opinion on electrical engineering, because I don't know the first thing about electrical engineering. Besides, didn't you jump down my throat a few weeks ago for being critical of Jimmy Page's technique?

I do agree that people need to be able to take criticism, and if you wish to succeed in this whole music thing, you're going to have to be able to look at things objectively. The people that my singer referred to earlier who "work with Green Eggs and laugh at the retarded stuff here" have incredible amounts of credibility by working closely with national acts ranging from Fuel to the Dixie Chicks. I think many cats here would have a reality check if they worked with these people, because they are brutally honest. When we first started working with them, we'd get "report cards" back that would say which songs were performed well, but there would also be critiques on things such as vocal harmonies that may have been a little out of key or if they was a tempo flucuation in the song. You do have to take criticism if you want to be the best, but honestly, I think too many people's egos are way too fragile. Just my opinion, of course. ;)

p.s. I've met a lot of musicians, and I've honestly never met anyone who soley got into this just for girls. Honestly, if that's the case, maybe they should start reading books by Mystery and David DeAngelo, because it would be a lot cheaper and wouldn't have all of the frustration tied to trying to play in a band.

You see, I think it changes from opinion when you decide to post it on a public forum, for all musicians to see. When you go into detail about what happened, that's being a critic....when you say something like, "i think they suck," that's opinion.

I deleted everything out of fucking respect to some people. Mostly, BDR and others on here who may not have logged on in the past day or so, and would come to see this shit. Don't believe me... ask Rob, I pm'ed him a fucking apology -- and I think we've put shit behind us.

Yea I'm a moron, you guessed it! I'm 26 actually and I've already done more with my life than you ever will.

You don't know me, so don't come to quick conclusions about me. I just use your ignorance to base my opinion of you. Your negativity just spews every time you get on here, just like it did before. You might as well get the fuck out again, because we have only room for one asshole on this page.....Hurricane.

oh wow. You went to Reno for what, a year... played for a band out there at Resorts.. decided you missed fucking Bellwood or Tipton, or whatever shithole you live in, and decided to come back. What have you done since then? Probably jack shit. Yeah... this is much more than I'll ever do in my life. Especially since my greatest days are behind me at 22, a college graduate, getting a job in the Credit Card Processing industry, being an E-Commerce Consultant for 2,000 small businesses, I could go on all fucking day... but you're right. You're much more accomplished for being twenty-six years old. I only hope in the 4 years I have to catch 26, that I could only attain... oh.... half of what you have.

Get the fuck out.

What band experience do you have? Do you play an instrument? Do you understand the time and effort it takes to play?

You have fun with your E-commerce bullshit, while I go play a show....

I'll let Rockpage users decide who is the real ignorant one here...we could bash on each other all day, but in the end, I know who's the ignorant prick here.
