I had surgery years ago (in the Dark Ages) and it didn't take that long for me to recover. But, this kind of stuff is on a case by case basis and
everyone heals differently. Good Luck!
By the way, get yourself a good barstool (unless you are a drummer)
and keep gigging. I kept playing with some obvious limitations, but played none the less. Where there's a will, there's a way!

I dunno about all that....that was back when they gave you a shot of whiskey and made you bite a rag for the pain. You're lucky they didn't just amputate your gimp leg...HAHA, but anyway, you'll be bedridden for the first couple of weeks. If you play guitar, you can sit and play, no biggie! There's no shame in playing a show sitting down...ToonaRockGuy wrote:I blew out my knee years ago and had a total reconstruction. It sucks major balls. I was out for about 4 1/2 months. It was a full 9 months before I could play drums again. Just be absolutely fanatical about your rehab and you'll be fine in no time. Good luck, man!

I severely hyperextended all the fingers on my left hand back in 1994. I couldn't play guitar for a year. That really sucked because I had just broken into that cushy State College circuit and had to cancel everything for a year.
The economy sucked really bad in the mid 90s and I had to survive on 16-24 hours a week at PSU.

...Oh, the freedom of the day that yielded to no rule or time...
I had ACL reconstructive surgery (cadaver achilles was attached to my bone) about 3 years ago. I was on crutches for only 3 days. I wasn't supposed to run or participate in sports for 6 months after the surgery, but felt relatively normal after only a few months. The knee feels better than ever now.

That is real. Hospitals really do that now. It has actulally happened and the wrong limb has been amputated.Viva la Pelt wrote:Posted: Thursday Feb 09, 2006 Post subject:

I just had a penis reduction 2 weeks ago and finally after a week and a half of intensive therapy I've developed carpal tunnel in both my right and left wrists

Have a YUMMY DAY!
Hey there Rockpagers,got fresh scoop on this thread,on Wednesday I had my miniscus tear fixed along with the removal of a synovial cyst on the back of the same knee.The only pain I'm really feeling today is the trauma of the scope procedure,the place where the pain WAS is feeling pretty good.Also,your correct Ron they took a sharpie and marked my left knee before the anestetic took affect.hehehaha funny farm for about 3 hours.Now acl surgery might take a little longer to heal,for me next week I start therapy 3x weekly for a month,but I gotta tell ya I feel pretty good already,just not gonna push it for awhile.Probably sit on a stool at the Post tonite.Good luck Viva,if you've had this problem for a long time like I did you'll feel so much better when it's all said and done.Anyway there's my 15 cents worth,Billy

Hi Bill... I had the same procedure done when arthroscopic surgery was in it's infancy, in '84. Three little pencil-size holes, took about an hour back then, but they still had me under. Worked okay, I guess, but I can tell you for sure something the doctor told me then is true: You'll never get it back to 100%. Mine feels pretty good most of the time, the weather gets to it occasionally, and when I'm on my feet a lot, I can feel it... not excruciating pain, just a nagging reminder. Oddly, I walk a lot for exercise, and it doesn't affect that at all, nor does lifting heavy weight, although you have to stay conscious of it. Oh, and if I'm in one position for more than 45 minutes or so, like in the kayak, it hurts to straighten it back out.
The weirdest part was back shortly after I had it done, for a year or more, it would just give out for no reason. I was standing in line at the Kix show at Sir Skate, shifted my weight a bit, and BOOM, down I go... very embarrassing. It happened several times after that, too. Only hurt my dignity, but not so funny at the time. The moral of that story is that they give you exercises to do (quadriceps, mostly) and I didn't do 'em. Do 'em.
Good Luck! ---------->
