Asinine Thread

Post by Lady Rock »

I agree! an Asinine thread would be perfectly fitting.

Let's get to the stump of the whole thing. Asinine is those who can't get past the idea that a DJ maybe quit simular to a band, (not skill wise), but seeing how cover bands are playing someone elses songs and music and so is a DJ, kind of makes it ironic! I guess if you are writting your own songs and playing your own music, then I would say maybe ..."higher up on the food chain" and with skill.

As far as the Steelers go, it's nice to see so many are devoted fans to their favorite teams. Yes, I said teams, there is more than one team in the league, I happen to like the Dallas Cowboys! There's a lot of good players within the Steelers, but the Steelers "ARE" a bit winy and touchy. It's no wonder so many on Rockpages admire them! I've met some of the Steelers before, they are not all fat, winy and touchy! I do think it was nice of you to play the "Steelers" song for the people at the bar the other night, they really appriciated it.. "A dickhead with a heart".. so unique!

"Bud Leighty"
I've heard gazoo sing, He's not to bad, I must say so myself! He can sing to me anytime~

The quote "The thing is you go out of your way to be a complete jerk-off here and have since you signed up" seems to apply to quite a few people in here. Asinine is someone who just don't recognize just how bad ignorance breeds ignorance! Gazoo, I would say that's a compliment, you are finally on their level.. Gazoo? have you realized that you were innocent and friendly comming into Rockpages and somehow you have
successfully become just like everyone else, but with a touch more class and tact... I really think you should get a bit more medevil on their asses!
If you need me to help ya.. just get loud! I would love to bring out that ultimate genetic truck driver language.. and you know... "spruce up" the intellect in here!

Again, Asinine is as asinine does..!

LET'S HAVE AN "ASS" OFF!
LIVE even LOUDER!

So what's everyone's favorite vodka? Personally, if I'm drinking vodka straight, I like Grey Goose.

they all share the same level of shititude..

DJ cannot produce music whatsoever, he outputs already mastered music..

Rapper cannot make music instrumentally, he relies on either machines or other artists for his music - he add words..

karaoke.. should be outlawed in all 50 states and u.s. territories.. i truely go along with the belief that karaoke was a "gift" to us from the japanese and in doing so... they truely won world war 2

I disagree ... while a lot of karaoke singers should not sing, I find it a great way for "working singers" to stay loose while throwin' down in front of an audience.

However, if you suck at karaoke and you still insist on singing things like, "Paradise By The Dashboard Light" or (*shudders*), "Turn The Page," you should be taken out behind the woodshed and beaten severely.

Hmmm...I completely fail to see the irony in the "cover band" argument. Seeing as how to "cover" a song, a DJ has to push "play". A "cover band" still has to learn the chords, learn the beats, learn the lyrics, learn the harmonies, then rehearse it ad nauseum to get it perfect. No irony there. Just pure talent.

Bottom line: Anyone can DJ. Not everyone can be a musician. Period.

DISCLAIMER: I'm sure Kevin and Jim Price know this, but for the benefit of the room, when we crack on DJs, we're referring to "club DJs," not radio DJs ... two completely different animals ...

not to counteract all that you guys are saying, because personally i dont like DJ's either, but have you ever heard DJ Skiddy sing? He was ryans singer before i was in Falling Higher. Hes a fuckin PHENOMINAL singer, he just makes more money from DJing, and thats his main career. He wanted to start a band before the DJ thing got as big as it did.

So, not all DJ's lack talent musically.

.......just most of them........

My beef is not about whether they have musical talent, but that they take money from our pockets ...

Even then, if the few DJs who have come on this board weren't complete jerks to the general population here on Rockpage, I wouldn't have a problem with them visiting ...

first off, i'd like to say that Lady Rock and Gazoo are my inlaws and i love them both to death. i also like 90% of you guys here on rockpage, i've been here for awhile w/ several different bands. and i really dont mean to offend anyone by doing this even tho i know what i have to say will, so i'll get the i'm sorry's out of the way now. as far as cover bands vs. DJs go, i think its kinda funny that coverbands shit on dj's becoz all dj's have done is figure out how to be a one man cover band w/ more variety and w/o working up a sweat. personally i enjoy live music to dj's but i want to hear originallity. while it is true that being in a cover band does involve being talented, i have to pose this question: if you are so talented, why not use your talent creatively and write your own songs instead of doing what has already been done? being in band i have enjoyed throwing an occasional cover into a set, but i would rather express what little talent i have creatively. if cover songs are all you do, then how are audiences supposed to recognize your TRUE talent? again i dont mean to shit on anyone here, to each his own, if you enjoy doing covers then rock that shit, i just think that if you are that talented show it to people by writing your own songs instead of your ability to memorize someone elses. again, thats just me, and sorry for pissing anyone off.

I think this is deserving of the "balls of the day" award for coming onto rockpage, which resembles a scene largely dominated by cover bands and shatting all over them..

my friend.. you've now officially opened the door, i promise you a thousand feet are about to go into your ass.. =) lol

well that wasnt my intent, i just wanted to voice an opinion about music which as a musician i think i should have the right to do, i wasnt saying cover bands suck or anything. you guys are obviously good at what you do or else this wouldnt be a scene dominated by cover bands, i was just wandering why you guys dont put your talent to good use?

i wasnt saying what you said was wrong.. i was just saying what you said is going to strike a nerve..

i prefer original over cover and in representing one of the area's original acts, i use rockpage in respect and reverance of the cover bands who play this area.. but i certainly respect every musician's ability to pick up an instrument or microphone and do what they do - and there are original bands in this "scene" - it's just that cover bands are prefered by the market here - we had like 30 page threads on this before, so im not gonna delve into it, im just saying.. dont be suprised if somebody goes off on you

If all local Bands only play all original Music, that leaves the "cover" Music only for the djs, who will eventually take over and put ALL local Bands out of business. You know where you can stick it.

HIM,

Understand that even close friends disagree and argue here and, it shouldn't be taken personally. It's been said before, this is a community and like any "community," there will be disagreement and ruffled feathers.

I remember not long ago, Hurricane and I got into a real-time shouting match on here one night (can't even remember what it was about, but it was cool ... LOL) and by the end of the thread, we were laughing at ourselves.

It's never personal, even when it seems like it. Ever fight with your brother/best friend/wife/girlfriend/whoever and say something you wish you hadn't? It's human nature to vent sometimes ... it's how you handle it that counts, especially if you're the one who's out of line.

I've had confrontations here with people like Ram Z, YankeeRose, lonewolf and Asundor, and there are times I've been out of line, but I think all of us will agree that there are no grudges. We have our viewpoints on certain topics that we disagree on, but there are a lot of topics we agree on, like pistachio nut awareness, flyers and wildlife saftey, humor in death and, of course, THE STEELERS.

This board is a time line. Read back into the pages if you're new to the site. Catch up. There's a real life "soap opera" unwinding here with a cool cast of characters and it's been archived for four years so far. This place kicks ass.

PS: Covers vs. originals. Been there. Pointless to debate. Do what feels good to you and try to be cool to each other.
