Post by nighthawk »

any good sugestions on getting some pickups rewound. i got a gibson nighthawk and to my knowledge no one makes a replacement for them. mine have started to squeal a good bit and i would like to get them fixed up back to as close to orrigonal as possible.

If memory serves, thats the crazy Les Paul shaped guitar that had 3 different pickups. The angled bridge pickup is the only one not available commercially. If its just squealing, you may only need to pot it. Double-boil some wax beads from WalMart and dip the pickup in the melted wax and that should get rid of the microphonics.

If you really want to get them rewound, the Seymour Duncan custom shop and Bill Lawrence will do that for about $200 per pickup.

Duncan has 4 different pickups for the mini humbucker in the neck. The Firebird Antiquity II and 3 mini humbuckers under "specialty".

Dimarzio also has two mini-humbucker models under "mini".

As for the bridge pickup, you'll probably have to send it out.
