It's looking Orange for PSU...

Post by Jim Price »

They won't be playing for college football's national championship, but the occasion should be noteworthy as Joe Paterno and Penn State are expected to land in the Orange Bowl opposite Bobby Bowden and Florida State, after the Seminoles upset Virginia Tech in the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship Game.

It will be cool to see these two coaching legends face each other, quite likely for the last time ever with both coaches well into their 70's. Also coincidental is that both coaches' sons help guide the offenses of their respective programs (Jay Paterno is Penn State's tight ends coach and recruiting coordinator, while Jeff Bowden is Florida State's offensive coordinator and receivers coach.)

What do you think of the game? Who do you think will win?

And of the two remaining unbeatens, who will take the National Championship? Will USC three-peat, or does Texas win the Rose Bowl and the championship?

I'm taking PSU over FSU. It will be great to see these two coaches square off against each other. They are number 1 and 2 in college football for the most wins. I think PSU has too many weapons, offensively and defensively. It should be an exciting game.
I don't think Texas will be able to handle USC. Too bad it isn't PSU and USC in the bowl. I think they are the two best teams.
If you book them, they will come..... Night Train Rocks!!!!!!!

I think this year JoPa and the Blue and White plain uniforms will prevail over FSU. If it were any of the last 10 years or so, FSU was a much better team. The Nits have been the comeback team of the year (last 5 years) and will win. Remember JoPa was ahead of Bobby Bowden in total wins but since then FSU has won a lot more games, but are a little flat this year.

Pusluzny will be the difference maker. (love that name, a great linebacker name like Butkus or Nitsche)

I'll be rooting for Penn State, I think that they are the far superior team.

As for the national championship, I picked Texas at the beginning of the season, and I'm still sticking with them. Their defense is better than USC's, so I say Texas wins 41-34.

All that said, I still wish they would take the BCS out back behind the shed and kill the living fuck out of it. In my opinion, there's no fucking way that a four loss team (Florida State) should get in to the BCS while a 10-win team (Oregon) gets left outside looking in. Conference ties be damned, it's not right. And for those that say that Oregon doesn't deserve to go to a BCS game because the PAC-10 is weak: If USC was in another conference, Orgeon would get the automatic bid from the PAC-10. But, since Notre Dame is [sarcasm] everyone's favorite team[/sarcasm], they'll get Oregon's spot, even though ND is the most over-rated team in the nation.

We need what Division 1-AA, II, and III do so well, and I enjoy watching: a PLAYOFF.

I agree with Toona about the BCS. I might be wrong, but had Penn State beaten Michigan and run the table undefeated, I think the Lions would be this year's Auburn story from last year, undefeated but still on the outside looking in at the National Championship game. This year's season played perfectly for the BCS advocates, no mess or major controversy.

Congress is starting to look at the whole BCS situation, here's an article:

Division I college football needs a playoff system. Top 8 ranked teams square off in a seven bowl-game, single-elimination tourney to determine the national champion.

I think the Lions will beat the Seminoles, but after what the 'Noles did against Virginia Tech, JoePa and company better be ready for that other crafty old guy across the field.

Penn State 28, Florida State 17.

And I think Texas can take USC; they seem to be the more focused team in recent weeks, plus I think they're hungrier for the Championship. It should be an exciting game.

Texas 35, USC 31.

I'm taking PSU by 10 and USC. I think when USC wants to actually play, they are untouchable. The times they have almost been beat they really barely showed up to play. Same for Texas but, I just think USC is better.
It would all be a moot point if the NCAA would step up to the plate and do what's right and have a play-off.
If youth knew; if age could.
