I want to commend everyone involved with this past Saturday's first "One Voice Musical Showcase" at the Castle Pub "Dungeon" for a successful event. Hats off to "The Mosai," Dave and Marina Moses; Dave for originating the idea, organizing and running with it, and running a very good sound mix for taking his gear out for the first time; and Marina for taking care of the door and collecting donations for the Altoona Food Bank.
Of course, the initial showcase was an area metal fan's feast! Four distinct, original purveyors of the metal arts - Inversion, Killjingle, One Gun Salute and House Of Cain - wowed a good-sized crowd with their respective brands of heaviness.
Inversion's dark wall of sound sandblasted me as I first entered the Dungeon, and I thought with their brand of dark, theatric metal, the Dungeon stage was a perfect fit! If Inversion ever decides to shoot a performance video, I think the Dungeon stage would be a perfect setting!
It was my first look at Killjingle. Their sound displayed several interesting elements and slants, some of it reminded me of Megadeth taken to the next logical extreme; I liked some of the unexpected twists and turns offered on tunes like "Focused on the Negative." Interesting stuff, I'll be curious to hear what these guys come up with in the studio!
Host Dave Moses and One Gun Salute displayed their torrid brand of angst-edged metal. Dave was clearly fired up, frequently taking his presentation throughout the Dungeon complex. I was happy to hear the resurrected former Frayed tunes brought back to life, like "From the Mountains" and "Pictures of My Disease;" the new material sounded tough as well. I look forward to hearing more.
And House Of Cain - HELL UP! These guys played a focused, confident set of rigid metal fusing aggression and groove; and had the Dungeon crowd eating out of their hands! My fave highlights were the slower number ("Emissary?" - with the "Kill the messenger" line in the lyrics), and the punkier-edged tunes, "Serpentine" and "Made to Suffer."
Good to see several Rockpagers in the audience, including Lonewolf and Shewolf, Esa, DMFJ03 and FatVin. I also liked Dave's idea of playing local CD's during intermissions, I always thought that was an excellent way of turning people on to local tunes, hopefully more soundmen will follow suit!
Again, hats off to everyone involved. Tornandfrayed is cooking up another "One Voice Musical Showcase" event - at a different venue and with a different musical flavor - probably for sometime in January. Watch out for it, and get ready to discover some more of this area's original talent!
One Voice Musical Showcase #1 in the books...
thanks to everyone who came out for the castle and made it such a resounding sucsess. there is a place for original music in this area and there is a audience as well. not only were there four terrific bands, but a noble cause was served as well. special thanks to the professor for his added hand to event. dave moses went above and beyond to makes this happen. hell up!!!
Indeed! Last night was awesome!
Dave, I think you should organize more shows like that for the hell of it!

Thanks
Thanks JP! You guys all did great for a great cause! I am proud to be a part of this community! WE pulled this off, without the participation of all of YOU this could not have worked!
We will do this again! Because of logistics and such it will probably not be every month, but we will do what we can.
Again Thanks to everyone involved!

Yeah, it was very much cool. Very awesome to see four very different, yet very similar bands play under one dungeon-roof. I loved it. Absolutely.
And the Mosai did awesome too!
And so did Red upstairs....keeping the teenie boppers at bay with his sound mixes. (This man is the only Dj I've every truely respected)

I'll be the one left standing behind you, looking the other way as you glance back at what you've lost.
