Bob Rock Sucks he took the metal out of metallica
I hate bob rock and i think he really ruined metallica especially for st anger i don't think metallica will ever come back. But anyways sorry for this post i know we are supposed to talk about metal so i don't know why i mentioned metallica. It all started with the black album. Hey i know i kinda enjoyed it not bashing metallica for that on the ones before that like kill em all, master of puppets and so on they just lost it. And i think alot had to do with the loss of cliff, and dave mustaine there is the attitude of metal up your ass. Do you agree.
Actually if you check your metal history book, Dave Mustaine had nothing to do with there most populart albums. So I'm gonna give a "no way" on that one. Master of Puppets is probably the favorite album by pre black album Metallica fans and also by alot of the post Black album fans. James and Lars have always been the Heart and Soul of the band. I think they just lost the focus needed to keep it a success. Putting out an album like St. Anger makes me think they just didn't give a shit anymore. And nothing against the guy from Suicidal Tendencies but he just doesn't fit.
To be good again they need years away to get there lives and focus together only then may they come back and be the Gods they once were.

I disagree, Metallica can never be good again. I saw Metallica do that sequence of songs on MTV when everyone else covered their music and Kirk ram-it couldn't even keep up and play the one guitar run fill in Master of Puppets. Lars was off-beat a lot and sadly to say Avril Laveignes band did a better job playing a Metallica cover than Metallica did.
Robert Trujillo is the LEAST of metallica's problems. Lars is an art fag. Kirk might as well just come out of the closet. James needs to get beat up for changing his writing style and singing style. the drum sound on st anger sucked ass. the songs sounded nothing like them. i liked the black album and everything before it. load, reload, st anger, & the garage crap can be placed into the garbage.

Everyone knows how early mustaine was kicked out of the band. They called kirk to join the band almost a full week before they even kicked him out. Just because the man drank alot they should have said hey man you got a problem go to AA. But nope they got rid of him. But wait when james has a problem everything is put on hold yeah mainly because he is the major part of the band but they did still mustaine wrong. Oh and as for history April 1 1983 kirk was called to join the band April 11 1983 Dave was kicked out

I guess I'll give my two sence. First off I agree about Robert Trujillo, he is a great Bass player but just does not fit with Metallica. My fav album is And justice for all. That album f--kin rocks. There never be the same. First I believe when Newsted decided to leave that crushed James's world.
Metallica in my opinion had no clue what the hell they were doing when they wrote and recorded St.Anger. I will make this simple as it should be. I make better noises when I take a shit. I diden't hear one good riff or drum beat, and no heart and soul in any of the lyrics on the St. Anger album. I keep hoping they surprise everyone with something soon but I'm not holding my breath. All in all what i have to say is the last time and the first time i saw metallica play it was pretty cool. Even though they had to plug the st anger album and played st anger and frantic the rest of the night was pretty cool. They didn't play anything after the black album and most of the songs that they played were off of And justice for all, and master of puppets. it was awesome only 3 songs were played off of the black album.

I remember picking up the Black album the very day that it came out and thinking "I hope that this grows on me". It didn't!!
Probably the largest reason that they'll never get back to a decent form is because their a bunch of spoiled brats. If Napster wasn't bad enough (which was a complete contradiction of the Metallica that I grew up with), there is the other issue of their psychological well-being and hurting each other's feelings. I ask, what metal band goes on the Jane Pauley show to talk about their feelings? A band of pussies!! I'm proud to say that I never bought another Metallica item after the Black album!!
Sidebar: Did any of you ever hear the song Mechanix off of the first Megadeth album? Sounds a lot like the 4 Horsemen, eh?

If I remember correctly Mustaine got writing credits on a few tunes on Kill 'em All and he also rewrote a few tunes from his metallica days for his first album wich resulted in some of the same riffs on both albums.Bert|Evil wrote: Sidebar: Did any of you ever hear the song Mechanix off of the first Megadeth album? I haven't like matallica since and justice for all was released. The black album had a couple of good songs on it, reload had maybe one good song. the rest of the new stuff sucked ..
I also think the best thing that ever happen to Mustain was getting kicked out of Metallica. Basically because, when all the youth were Metallica fans I was a Megadeath fan. I still think Megadeth is a lot better than Metallica will ever be ... Metallica was the most commercialized "Poser" band ever .. I used to laugh. Because a lot of the people who liked, never even knew they had cd's before and justice for all. And the only song they knew, at the time, was one ..

I'm going to make a post that's probaly going to be considered unpopular.
I'm sick and tired of people whining about how Metallica doesn't play thrash metal anymore. If you don't like their post-Justice material, then don't buy their post-Justice albums. It's as simple as that. A lot of fans walk around with some kind of chip on their shoulders because they act like Metallica owed them something. When an artist releases an album, they don't owe anyone shit. Just because you bought Ride the Lightning doesn't mean that Metallica owes you with Load. It's their art, and they can do whatever they wish with their art. I believe that musicians should always do whatever they should to please the audience at a show, autograph signing, ect., but when it comes time to walk into a studio, the only person the artist should be looking to please is himself or herself. A lot of people have too much personal identity wrapped up in the music that they listen to; just enjoy music for music's sake.

personally i like black album and before. i agree with evolving sound. metallica COMPLETELY changed their style. no way around that. st anger sounds like they were trying to compete with the music of today...and even failed doing that. sure they dont "owe" anything to fans i guess, but they should change their band name because they are not metallica anymore.

Its called freedom of speech and we have the right to bitch and moan about anything from political views even to music so if i want to come out and openly say that i don't like metallica that is my choice. I like up to black album and before it. Nothing else after that. This is america. Free get used to it. I used to defend metallica and everything and thought that people were bitching just because they didn't play thrash metal anymore. The deal is they started to try something new and alot of people don't agree with it. I wasn't mad when they sued napster myself i don't think that was the right choice because they lost alot of fans that way as well. But then to turn around and play the download tour what was that about.
Yeah but if you're gonna put out an album like St. Anger don't have as many copies printed as you did in the past.bassist_25 wrote: when it comes time to walk into a studio, the only person the artist should be looking to please is himself or herself.
Its true Paul the band doesn't owe everyone anything but when fans enjoyed previous material on a high level and then are let down like they've been its gonna disapoint some people.

Yes, it is your choice to bitch, but people need to get over it. Metallica's just a band, nothing more, nothing less. People hold musicians up to the standards of gods, and they shouldn't. They're just people. If someone wants philosophy, they should read some Pascal, not buy a Rock album.ChaosRisingRice wrote:Its called freedom of speech and we have the right to bitch and moan about anything from political views even to music so if i want to come out and openly say that i don't like metallica that is my choice. As far as suing Napster - Lars has stated many times that it was over the issue of keeping control of their music, and I agree. I've always been an advocate of artists remaining in control of their own music. It was very stupid to sue Napaster, because Napster is just a software company providing the means to fileshare (both legal and illegal documents). That would be like suing Remington for making a gun that some thug used to hold up a bank with. But I can't argue with Metallica's intentions of trying to remain in control of their art.
I can understand people being disappointed over an artist putting out material that they don't enjoy. One of my favorite bands to come out in the past decade would be Tool. I think that they make amazing music. If they came out with an album of weak pop-oriented material, I'd definatley be disappointed, but I wouldn't walk around with a chip on my shoulder for the next ten years. There's a major difference.
I knew that my post would be unpopular.

If Metallica would have changed their name upon releasing the black album, it would have been appropriate. "Tearful Menses" would be a good one for them.
The change really was "night and day"!! Somehow, I have a feeling that Lars and James weren't buying the original releases off all the bands that influenced them.

Hmm .. I have all their cd's, I also didn't buy them .. A lot of the affect that metallica is feeling is from Lars taking on napster. I won't get into what I think about that .. But I will say that he a pompous ass ..bassist_25 wrote:I'm going to make a post that's probaly going to be considered unpopular.

Not picking on you (this is meant as a joke post) but the irony of this thought just occurred to me:
Yes, maybe everyone should get over bitching about Metallica sucking now and should not buy their albums. But, it can also be argued that an individual should not enter discussions about Metallica sucking if they are tired of hearing people bitch about them. Kind of like sticking a lit cigarette on your arm when you already know it's going to burn.

Personally, I hate the band's music now. I'm not wasting my time anymore bitching about them because, in my world, once you are of no use to me (like giving me a moment of horned raising headbanging with an ass kicking thrash riff), you no longer exist.
If youth knew; if age could.
Metallica, The way I see it:
1. They owned your ass in the 80' and early 90'
2. Cliff Burton is dead, forgett about the Hetfeild, Ulrich shit! cliff &
Hammett are the key!
3. Bob rock is an asshole!!!!!!!!!!!!!
4. I am more than happy that Dave Mustaine was ejected from the band!
Megadeth was the greatest rival and counterpoint to Metallica!
5. Mustaine was much more responsible for the first two albums than you
think! get out your records and read the credits, if you actualy own
anything before the black album!
6. If you hand Kirk Hammett a guitar he will still rip your face off!
7. Flemming Rasmussen where are you!
8. Metallica earned the right to do what ever they want! (even if it sucks)
9. Never count Metallica out! the next album may be the greatest or
worst, from one of the greatest, most important metal bands of all time!
10. Kill em ALL is my favorite!
