Calling All METALHEADS!

Post by ToonaRockGuy »

Okay, so most of you know that I work in radio, and most of you know where I work.

I'm in the process of completely re-vamping our 10PM "Mandatory Metal" feature, trying to bring REAL metal to the airwaves. I've got a good start on some cool stuff thanks to a radio buddy in Detroit, but I need some more ideas from YOU GUYS.

I need you to post what bands and songs you'd like to hear on Mandatory Metal. And no, I'm not playing hair metal. I'm talking Arch Enemy, Black Dahlia Murder, Devil Driver, COC, Lamb Of God, Mudvayne, Deftones, and others.

I'd love to have your suggestions with you keeping the following in mind:

1. Songs MUST be CLEAN. (Clean = no cursing) I don't have time to edit language, so please don't suggest "One More Bullet" by Six Feet Under.

2. All styles are cool. Death, Black, Mainstream, Goth, whatever. Educate me.

3. If you know where I can get it on the net in a clean MP3 download, please include that in your reply. Keep in mind that filesharing for this project is LEGAL, as my radio station already pays BMI/ASCAP. I use LimeWire here at work to get most of this stuff, so there are no legal issues.

4. If possible, please include as much information as you can. Preferred format would be song title, artist, and album. That makes it easier for me to try to find it.

Thanks for the help in advance. And if you haven't already, listen to the show, it's pretty cool.

Avenged Sevenfold (A7X)- Play some of their older stuff. I'm liking some Metalcore.

BTW, When will it quit being the "NEW" radio station? Hasn't it been around a while and no longer "NEW"?

I wish it worked like that, but it doesn't. That's why I'm asking for help from Rockpagers here. Normally, we (the dj's) DON'T get a say in what we play. That's just the way radio is. And I never claimed to be a metal expert. I know what I personally like, but there is a lot for me to learn. So how about naming some of these great obscure tracks so I can try to find them, instead of being a smartass?? :P

Please allow me to suggest some regional metal acts that have some national/international name recognition. I don't think this steps on the territory of another radio station's show since these artists are signed to larger labels with international distribution. I have included websites where the MP3 can be downloaded.

Silent Force "No one Lives Forever" (Noise Records featuring DC Cooper from Bedford, PA)
http://www.noiserecords.com/silentforce/worlds/mp3.html

Pharaoh - "After the Fire" (Cruz Del Sur Records featuring Tim Aymar on vocals - Aymar played in Pgh bands Dr. Know, Triple X, Psycho Scream and with Chuck Schuldiner in Control Denied)
http://www.cruzdelsurmusic.com/homesounds.htm

Icarus Witch - "Curse of the Ice Maiden" (Magick/Cleopatra Records - band is from Pittsburgh, and now boasts local music veteran John Passarelli on drums)
http://www.rockerie.com/thescene/bands/121/

Slik Helvitika - couldn't find any downloadable tunes, but this Philly metal band is very good.

Arch Enemy - anything off of Wages of Sin

Cradle of Filth - you can cover most of Nymphetamine without much worry. Midian is their best album but songs like Lord Abortion render it pretty much unplayable, although Chtulu Dawn is their best song IMO and it's clean enough.

Meshuggah - War is a phenomenal song. Chaosphere is a good album to play

Old Man's Child - the album In Defiance of Existence is phenomenal

Graveworm, Emporer (Anthems to the Welkin at Dusk is a good one, so is Wraths of the Tyrant), and Dimmu Borgir (Death Cult Armegeddon) all rule

Cryptopsy - None So Vile is fucking brutal and pretty clean

And of course if you're playing metal, you have no choice but to play the shit out of all things Slayer. Otherwise, it is heresy.

I second the King's X, Evergrey, and Nightwish.

I'd like to hear some Symphony X or Malmsteen. I'm not much on the aimless wankers, but it would rock to hear them on the waves.

Also..............Dream Theater! I heard them on the radio for the first time a few days ago (sorry to say this, but it was on XM). Needless to say, it was pretty awesome to hear from something other than a CD or computer!

Old Iron Maiden/Killers, Phantom of the Opera, Prisoner, Total Eclipse

Old King Diamond-Abigail/Them ,anything from those albums.
Celtic Frost-Morbid Tales/Emperors Return-anything from those two albums.
I third the King's X. Something from Gretchen goes to Nebraska would be cool.
Here's a list of bands to consider, Anything from these bands would be cool.
Slayer, Obituary, Malevolent Creation, Pestilence,DRI(Dirty Rotten Imbecels),Agnostic Front,
Biohazard, Misfits, Danzig, Megadeth, Kreator, Destruction, Paul Dianno(Battlezone and solo stuff), Incantation, Immolation, Funerus, Krisiun, Nuclear Assault, SOD, MOD. Dark Funeral, Pissing Razors,

DEATH the band that the whole deathmetal genre is named for. How about something from the album Leprosy like "Pull the Plug" or "Open Casket" ,of course anything you can find from them would be cool too.

OLD Queensryche/EP and The Warning, Queen of the Reich,Prophecy, NM156,Roads to Maddness

Testament anything from them would be cool.

Exodus has a new album coming out how about that stuff.

Until recently I thought Barry Manilow was black. Speaking of metal though, who else bought the new Arch Enemy? Best money I ever spent.

Don't forget Neil Diamond. It's not a true metal show without the Neil Diamond. As Manowar once said, "Death to False Metal!!!", and Neil Diamond is far from being false metal.
"He's the electric horseman, you better back off!" - old sKool making a reference to the culturally relevant 1979 film.

What about Tony Orlando and Tom Jones? Um, Englebert anyone?

How about Krokus and Accept?

Just realized they usually violate rule #1.

I'd come in my pants if I actually heard some Overkill on the radio! They are the best band I've EVER seen live and they just put out their 14th studio record. Overkill songs I'd love to hear on the radio (clean ones) would be:

"Long Time Dyin" from The Underground and Below
"Loaded Rack" from ReliXIV
"Play the Ace" from ReliXIV
"Battle" from Killing Kind
"Necroshine" from Necroshine

I could go on and on and on....

I would love to see those guys get the recognition(and air-time) that they deserve.
