Guitar setup needed

Post by Atomic Jim »

I have an American Standard Strat and I need a good set up done on it. I'm installing Vintage Lace sensors and the electronic necessary to set it up like a Clapton Strat. The problem is with the neck and action. I can't seem to get the action low enough on the top of the neck. Bobby McMillen used to set up my guitars and he did a fantastic job, but he has since retired.

I need some one who can get the acton down low (with .009s or .010s) and yet avoid buzzing and have an even string height all the way up and down the neck. It's a very comfortable guitar to play otherwise. I guess I'm spoiled by the great acton on my Carvins.

If you know of any setup people, let me know. Also, if you use Carvin guitars, it would be interesting to get your take on those too.

If its the lower frets like 1-5 you're looking at getting better action on the nut will probably need shaved down, just pop it out and file the bottom side down evenly and in small increments, putting it back together and trying it each time. If you screw it up ya can buy a new one for pretty cheap. Actually it wouldn't hurt to buy a graph tech nut for that it will really help with tuning.

I mess with my own guitar but I don't wanna touch anyone elses.
Don't bitch to me about the economy while you're still buying Chinese products.

Go to Shawn or Francis at Music Haven...they did my strat in a similar manner.
If youth knew; if age could.

Red:

Is that Marc from Johnstown? I think I talked to him once and then lost his number when my PDA was acting weird. Do you know his last name. I understand he is very good. Thanks

I do setups. Also, Jules at the Music Emporium does a good job.
