'Judy in Disguise' singer John Fred dies
John Fred Gourrier, leader of John Fred & His Playboy Band, who had a global No. 1 hit with Judy in Disguise (With Glasses), died Friday. He was 63. In the course of a four-decade musical career, Baton Rouge native Gourrier had regional hits that drew on R&B, blues and garage rock. But his breakthrough was the pseudo-psychedelic Judy, a tribute/send-up of the Beatles' Lucy in the Sky With Diamonds.
