Food and Creative Love

Post by ZappasXWife »

OK, name of post is, of course, a Rusted Root song, but topic is one near and dear to my heart...FOOD
herald said...
As far as health reasons well whats healthy seems to change everyday, lowfat....no! lo-calorie!!....no! lo-carb!..maybe...
herald, what's healthy doesn't change, but what the media wants to say, usually at the bequest of some theory (that may be based on one tiny bit of truth) that some food manufacturer or diet guru has taken and ran with like a golden ring does change every day. Pure science and the rule of thermodynamics doesn't change.

What is everyone's favorite food?
What is a "weird" food that you especially like?
If music be the food of love, then play on...

I agree Zappaswife, good way to put it, this is kinda funny cause people that didnt read the question post dont have any idea what were talkin about, but the post was gettin transformed from religion to nutrition  Its a #$%^ed up world and the more we try to anylize it the more insane it becomes whether its politics, religion, music, food or whatever we all have to agree on one thing.......... humans cant agree on anything! but thats what makes us human is that we are entertained by controversy and opinions. there is so many ridiculous things that we do... for instance STYLE is something that has always been a cause for controversy. who was the first woman to shave there legs and armpits?when people see a woman with hairy pits they go oooooooh! gross but a guy can have a christmas tree under his arm and noone thinks twice.things like this make me wonder where did it began? could you imagine george bush with knickers and a wig with ponytails? back then it was the norm. when does society determine when something is publicly acceptable and proper?why can women wear earings at work but not men? i was wrote up for having and earing at work, i refused to take it out stating that just because i have a penis doesnt mean i cant wear an earing!? as time goes on and technology becomes faster, the styles change so fast that you could get fired for something one day and get a raise for the same thing a month later!?like i said earlier humans are insane, always were always will be

Holy hells...I must have forgotten to pick up the monthly cosmo... arrrgh!

And zappa....spaghetti! of any kinds.

wierd things? ummm...calamari. french fries on hamburgers. chips on ham sandwhiches. fingering pizza. ::thinks:: fingering soup. hot chocolate mix in cold milk..un mixed.
oh...and oven roasted grasshoppers. taste just like peanuts.

My view on food is this... If you want to be healthy, keep you diet full of as many raw, unprocessed foods as possible. Keep you intake of saturated fats and sugers low. If you are hungry, then eat, but if it takes a chemistry major to figure out the label, try something else.

Another important part of eating healthy... learn to cook.

I always looked at it like this:

Fat-Free
Cholesterol-Free
Sugar-Free
Carb-Free
Caffine-Free

It all equals TASTE FREE.

I'm going to die anyway. So I'm going to eat what the hell I want to.

I predicted long ago that I will die at about 60 of a massive coronary, with a piece of Pizza Hut Pan-Style Meat Lovers pizza in one hand, a can of Mary Kitchen Corned Beef Hash in the other hand, and a GIGANTIC SMILE on my face.

Life is too short to worry about stuff. Eat what you want.

I'm hungry now. :D

But you didn't say what your favorites are! Or maybe you did:
Meat-Lovers Pan Pizza (good one!)
Mary Kitchen Hash? (guess thats your weird one)
Personally, I like hash in Mary's kitchen, HaHa

Hey TRG, you can eat like that 'cuz you have that stay-skinny-but-eat-whatever you want metabolism. If you weighed 300+ You'd probably be singing a different tune.

My personal high for weight was 230. I've been between 180-185 now for a year, and it really didn't involve a diet. I just eat sensibly and in moderation. I've also developed the talent to make fantastic meals out of simple healthy ingredients.

Some of my favorites:
Shark steak with roasted red pepper cream sauce.
Buffalo tenderloin w/ garlic mashed taters.
Black bean chicken chili.
Roast beef and horseradish sandwich on homemade asiago cheese bread.
File Gumbo.
A thick Delmonico cooked medium-rare with just salt and pepper.

I eat unhealthy things like a pepperoni lovers pizza on occasion, maybe a couple meals per week, but afterward I usually feel terrible. Good food doesn't have to taste bad, but on the other hand, it's very easy to make something taste good when it's loaded with fat, sugar and salt.

I've eaten plenty of strange stuff too:
Ostrich, Springbok, Conch, ants, groundhog, rattlesnake, octopus and more. I also like the calamari tentacles much more than the rings cut from the squid's mantle. Couldn't get myself to eat those Rocky Mountain oysters though.
... and then the wheel fell off.

I pay some attention to low-fat labels and such (my family has a history of heart problems), but I'm not going to stress out over it. Everything in moderation. Usually, if I do a slab of steak or a lotta wings one day, I'll go easy on meats and do more veggies and salads the next day. Try to balance it all out over the longer term.

Lately, as crazy as my schedule tends to get during the week, I've been doing a lot of Campbells and Progresso soups for lunch. I nuke 'em when I get to work, and at 66 to 75 cents a can, it's far cheaper (and probably healthier) than doing the Sheetz/fast food route.

But I'm part Italian, so pigging out from time to time is in my manufacturer's warranty.

Fave foods:

1. Pelly's wings (like you didn't already guess)
2. pizza/anything Italian
3. seafood

Unusual food preferences:

1. cashews
2. sardines in Cajun hot sauce

I passed Zappa's Wife on the way to State College today & she was eating a whole pig's foot. It almost made me vomit...all the fat was congealed, and her lips looked all glossy from it. As a nutritionist, I would think that she might need to do some 'splaining about her odd choice of breakfast today. Also, ZW, what did you do with the bone when you were done? I guess pig bones dont count as litter, since they're biodegradable, or do they>?

Actually, I have recently gotten back to what I call my "Navy weight". I have been eating everything in sight to gain weight. When I got out of the Navy in 1991 I was 225 lbs with 4% body fat. With the change in diet (military food is VERY starchy and carb-laden) I dropped down to 160 lbs within 9 months. I stayed skinny no matter what I did, and working out just made it worse.

I think that my metabolism has finally slowed down some 15 years later, and I'm back up to hovering at about 220. I've begun to "gently" work out to reposition some of the weight I've gained, but I'm still terrified of losing weight and not being able to put it back on.

Being 300 lbs can be bad, and I know that it's frustrating to try to lose weight, but believe me, when you can eat a horse and not gain a pound when you want to, it's very frustrating as well.

Oh, and my favorites:

Pasta Fagioli
Cannelonni
Manicotti
Biscuits and Sausage Gravy
Turkey with all the trimmings
And the ever simple PB and J.
Dood...

Well.... Anyone who has seen me can tell that I don't adhere to any specific diet  . I kind of share ToonaRockGuys sentiments... I love the taste and anything with "Free" behind it usually doesn't have it. Although I have been trying to lose weight... but it's hard when you get home from work and all you want to do is pound down a couple of beers a bag of chips!!

Favorite food... oh, there's sooooooo many! I'd have to settle on Mom's roast beef and mashed potato's.

Wings or chili cheese fries are my fav. fast type food.

The weirdest thing I ever ate was stuffed squid.... I wasn't real happy with that!

Watch those soups, JP, lots of sodium! I'm sort of in a comfort food phase, 'cause I'm all stressed out about being unemployed and such, so I gotta slim it down ... fishing and kayaking season is coming, albeit very slowly. I tend to vege in the winter, and get active as the water warms up... I've always been the 'seasonal affective disorder' type.
Faves-- Sushi... so complex in taste, and exotic. Sakura in Altoona is pretty good... very clean, excellent service, and authentic food, too. I go there frequently. Try the cooked Altoona Roll.
Weird-- I've also had some odd food, mountain-boy that I am : groundhog, raccoon (years ago), snake, turtle, squirrel, rabbit, bear, moose, elk, bison, caribou, gator, and more, but I really like this cooked sushi called unagi, which I believe is either squid or octopus tentacle. It's in a sauce, and melts in your mouth.----->JMS

You're right, Rusty, that is damn good eating! I got there late on Saturday (I was the last paying customer in through the door), that is maximum meal for the buck! They're doing it again April 2!

Speaking of GFG's, I have one of the big outdoor models with the pedestal base. I've never even opened the box.
I had one of the mid-sized ones and gave it away. I usually buy lean cuts of meat, and unless I marinated everything, the GFG just turned them into jerky.

Now I have another to give away. Any contest ideas?
