potato heads and skell

Post by becky »

my sister kymm and I are the potato heads at who cares, we wanted to let everyone know what we are up to and how much we appreciate the music. bear with me if it get s long and drawn out but there are things that need to be said and I am about to do that. it is important to us that you read this! please.
since october when we took over,

#1 the roof leaked during the transition and was not covered by insurance, boo hoo right?

#2 the ansel system in the kitchen for fire prevention went off for no reason and shut our restaurant down until it could be repaired and inspected, boo hoo right?

#3 while working short handed during an illness, with a band that shall remain nameless, some of the people decided that they wanted free beer and one at a time snuck back to our kitchen where the beer is stored and helped themselves to alot of our stock and snuck it right out the back door. boo hoo right? well during this same night they also decided that beer was not enough and took our company checks and emptied our account before I noticed that the extra checks were gone. well the bank is no help and neither is anyone else with this matter, so we have replaced the broken locks and gone on

#4 we found out on thursday that our well collapsed and we have no fucking water! now bear in mind that skell was our band for saturday and we were trying to figure out what to do, I decided that we were going to go on with the show and I would haul water in just to flush toilets and wash dishes. which actually did not turn out too bad, I do have to say, thank you to my sister who held it together better than me and hung around until 5 am until the band got their stuff out.
and now if any of you ever think about giving up and quitting just come and see us, if you are determined enough and have what it takes you just go on, this is the stuff that makes us stronger and better and tells us who we truly are. so to the last of this long winded note, to skell, you are like brothers to us, I love you all. to my favorite drummer, I am going to miss whipping jello shots at you, I am sorry that you will not be playing anymore.

thank you to the underground for airing skell on the night they played at our place, it was a special night for all of us. bones, slow down in sykesville man, no more tickets!!! and a special apology to you guys because I ducked out early, when I left at 2:30 without saying goodbye it was because I could not face you with tears in my eyes and a heavy heart.

everything above finally got to me and I am sorry, I know kymm told you I am really sick, and I have not told anyone, so the very last thing I will say is we are going to be here for a long time to come and it can only get better for christ's sake, so we will continue to support every band that wants to play and wohoo what a party we will have every time, and a side note for all (and if any band that is involved with our battle of the bands for charity has a problem with this call me immediately), I have changed the charity to our local american cancer society, we have 120 tickets printed and I need to sell all of them and more if possible.
never give up on a dream, you can do it if you work hard enough and believe in yourself.

Did you know that 90% of restaurants go belly-up within 2 years? It sounds like you have the determination and drive to succeed, you just need to keep your shoulder to the wheel, keep your eyes on the prize, and keep on keepin' on. I've read about a million books on business, and not a single one ever said it would be easy.
As for the theft... girl, that's agin the law 'round these here parts... put some a**hole in jail, and that'll stop. I hope you called the law in on it, because you'll be seeing enough of them anyway. If anybody here knows or hears who it was, you'll get a PM (RIGHT PEOPLE?).----->JMS

the law is involved and it was not just us that got hit, two other bars in our area were robbed and now people are getting their tires slashed at one of them in sykesville. you know we have some really great friends in the bands that have played at our place and when one band would play, the others that were not booked came to see them, to support them now thats the way it should be. I support other businesses in this area, if I can get away I make sure I go see other bar owners and we talk alot about the different bands that are playing in the area and I do mention names of bands that I recommend to other bars, isn't that how its supposed to work? I also come to altoona and bar hop to see some of you guys play, but I have never introduced myself or interupted anyones night because I wanted to hear the music not do business. for every band that has sent me a press kit with a cd in it, I take this stuff with me to see if another bar in this area is interested in booking you guys too, I think it is only right that if you are going to travel this far to play at least I can try to drum up some more gigs for you, because I appreciate your talent and the time you put in to it and so does my sister kymm, if we could make some of you famous we would.

Hey Becky...I give you a huge pat on the back for being a bar trying to bust ass and promote rock bands. I've lost probably five or six clubs that I booked at because the owners couldn't keep it together and make good decisions. Keep plugging away and you'll see the benefits.

Oh yeah...book the Wiskerbisket guys...you won't be disappointed. I meant to tell you about them, but I've been without a computer for the past week and a half...hard drive decided to die on me and wipe out all of my files. Yeah, I'm not the "floppy back-up kinda guy", so I lost some important stuff...it can all be replaced over time though.

hey, I am going to book wiskerbiskit, and believe me I am never disappointed in a band. I am too worried about disappointing them. I love what we are doing now and I do not care what kind of hardships we have to deal with, we have the determination and the drive and hopefully the cash comes along with that soon! lol. I am originally a powdered metal plant worker, I was in quality control for 5 years, the pay is great but not what I wanted to keep doing, I got real tired of that shit and we decided why not put our backs in to something we both had experience with and actually liked to do, so here we are. and on another note, they did not show up today to start drilling the new well, the restaurant is still closed until that is done and der & dep test the water again. I'm a little cranky about that
