WHAT A NIGHT!!!

Post by Jim Price »

The John McKnight jam Thursday night at City Limits was - simply put - OFF THE MAP!

What an incredible evening! It felt like Wednesday nights at the U.S. Hotel all over again, except bigger!

Former Altoona musician John McKnight was home from Atlanta for the holidays, and set up this show at City Limits so he could get together and jam with his musical friends. It turned into a who's who of Altoona music scene names, on stage and lighting it up!

Through the course of the night, we witnessed Randy "Jackson" Rutherford (blazing on guitar AND sax this night); Pat McGinnis and Jason Ebersole on bass; John, Kevin Siegel, Eric Wertz, Bob Watters and Steve Bidoli on drums and percussion; Harold Hayford on keys; Rick Wertz and Felix Kos on guitars; Bob Scholl on sax; Tyne Replogle on banjo and voice; Jim McConnell on harmonica; Troy Earnest on voice - hopefully I didn't leave anyone out - it was an Altoona area music scene all-star jam! A number of us were trying to calculate how many years of playing experience was assembled on the stage this night - I figured it was well over 200!

Excellent music, nice big appreciative crowd, highlights galore (my favorite was the John McKnight/Eric Wertz drum duel during "All Along the Watchtower"), and joyous vibes throughout the house!

Unless you were already gigging elsewhere this night, kick yourself very, very hard if you chose to bypass this one - it was simply incredible!

It was a great night for the time that I was there. Such a showing of talent on the stage. When I walked in, they were playing some bluegrass stuff and it was amazing from the guitar to the banjo....just some mind blowing stuff. It was the place to be also for a young musician like myself. Lots of things to pick up and just see the musical legends of this area all together. (The word Inspiration comes to mind) Very Cool Indeed!!! And they are all so down to earth, no egos, just a good time!

I second JP's comments. What a great night of music. From Wild Cherry to ZZ Top and anything else in between. IF they do this again, we should record it and sell CDs of the "event". Kudos to Claudio for hosting and Scott for a good mix all night.
I love it when a plan comes together.
