Tattoo's

Post by XseverinjectedmeX »

Alright, Im getting a tattoo Thursday and I am juts asking fer an oppinion.
I have a home made tattoo already, but its been a while and its in a spot that really duznt hurt neway.
I am getting 7 letters on my upper arm and was just wondering: How bad duz it really hurt?
People tell me that "if u really want it, you'll handle the pain" I am most def. going thru with it...just wondering so i can brace myself.
All oppinions would help!! Thanks!

Well, my opinion is that it depends on the location on your body if it's really going to hurt or not. I have the tops of both of my arms done and it didn't hurt that bad so don't worry......however, the one on my chest was a different story, pinched like a mo-fo! The higher it got towards my collar-bone, the more I started to sweat and grind my teeth! But it was all worth it, Im glad I got the ones I have and I plan on getting a few more, good luck!!.........oh, and a little word of advice, be VERY nice to your artist because they have the ability to make it hell if you're a dick to them...lol

I have one on my shoulder and it really wasn't all that painful. it was more of an annoying burning feeling, kinda like somebody rubbing the same spot with a plastic butter knife for a really long time. weird analogy, i know, but for some reason thats what popped into my head as i was getting mine done. I apprenticed in a tattoo shop for a while a few years ago, and never saw anybody scream, cry or beg for pain killers if that helps ease your anxiety. pretty much the closer to the bone you get (spine, ankle, etc) the more it hurts, so you should be allright on your upper arm, but if you have a wrap around i'd imagine the underside probably hurts like a bitch. I'm guessing it's not even gonna come CLOSE to how much a homemade tattoo would hurt. the needles look scarey, but they don't go in nearly as far as you would think.
Not sure how you are getting your letters done, and I'm no expert, but i was taught that if you are getting alot of solid black done its best to get it done over the course of a few sessions cuz you'll lose a little color as it heals up. If you try to slam all the ink in there in one shot you risk ripping up the skin too much and scarring, and having your solid areas look permanently blotchy. so if you're getting lots of black in your letters you might need to have it retouched at some point so it looks good and solid. I was also told that you shouldn't even bleed. your skin should ooze a little, but blood means you're needle's going too deep, so really, it's not that bad. But like I said, I'm far from an expert, thats just what I was taught. hope it helps a bit. good luck!

Outlining is the most painful part of the process. After that, you're home free.

I once asked a guy I knew about the pain. He said that it felt like like being scratched by a cat over and over again. I think that's a pretty accurate description. It's more of a burning sensation. Does it hurt? Yes. Is it unbearable pain? No.

Also, make sure that the artist doing your work is very good. Lettering is one of the most difficult tattooing designs to do.

I have 7 tats and I will say that anywhere around your spinal cord is painful. Anytime they passed the needle over the spine, I thought I was going to jump out of my skin. I'm normally pretty good with pain, but that was a pain I never felt before. But the way I see it is you get what you ask for and if it's what you want, then you have to deal with whatever pain comes with it. I think you'll be fine on the upper arm, though.

I thought this thread was about a new Herve Villechaize nightclub coming to the area. Sorry.

My friend I have 15 seperate pieces and they all hurt in different ways, what folks are saying about the location is true, upper arm not so bad, wrist not so good, inner forearm not so good, outer forearm not so bad, My leg was my worst it was a 5 hour piece and I literally limped for 4 days after, BUT here's the thing, the pain is part of the excitement get it done and within a week it'll be your pride and joy !! Get alot get em often !

I have 4 and the one on my arm/upper arm was not that bad...spinal ones are the worst, by far...unless you're doing your skull...

I have to disagree. I have one on my lower back. The blacking hurt for a while then was fine. The rest of it went smoothly till it was just around my left upper kidney area. Ask DMFJ. He still has my finger imprints in his hand from that butterfly...

Yes, you are. Just a little. And yes he is a wuss! But he definitely jams "pretty" to pink!

I am a tattoo fanatic, I love getting ink done. However I will say the worst one I got was on my rib cage. Four sessions of sitting down with your arm over the back of your head probably doesn't sound like fun but I enjoyed every minute of it. I am working on my back piece next. I reccomend Moonlite tattoo in Lewsitown PA. web site address is www.moonlitetattoo.com

Bob and Tony are the best so check em out!!!!!!!!!!!!!11

How big is the piece, though? Mine goes from shoulder level to right around the middle of my back and 80% of it is right on the spinal cord. A lot of outline going on in it. It definately was the worst pain I've had from a tat ever.

Man, I should have went with you and Rob the other week; I'm getting the itch to get some more ink.

I went down to my normal studio in Dubois on Saturday night, and the store they use to be in is closed for building violations or something. This place use to have really funky hours, so every other studio was closed by then. I guess I should have called ahead. *LOL*

ink

Post by BDR »

I have to agree with the "cat scratch" comparison. The outline was an ongoing, annoying cat scratch, but the little bit of pain was not even anything close to what I had built up in my mind. I got lightheaded, but that happens to me anytime I get blood drawn. It didn't help that I was smoking during the session. Once I butted the smoke and they kicked on a fan to move some air, the lightheadedness passed and everything was groovy.

The coloring in, however, I have to disagree with "Future Bobby, Crazy Paul" Rainey. I found the coloring in much less comfortable than the outlining. The raking back and forth, while not excessively painful, seemed more intense to me.

I got my first tat two weeks ago this Friday. It's on my shoulder so this should be a good comparison for you. I've heard that necks hurt like a bitch. You should be just fine where you're getting yours.

Will I get more ink? While I didn't enjoy the actual process, I really do enjoy the end product, and the irritation ended as soon as the artist was done, so who knows? This was something I've considered doing for years and the opportunity presented itself. I'm not planning on more ink, but I don't know if I can rule it out.

Wow

Post by Mackovyak »

Wow, old topic....

I had the mask for about a year, got the rest finished yesterday. I have to go back and get the purple touched up, he said my skin was getting too raw. I think that's all I'm doing. 3 tats is enough, and this one kind of got out of hand (12 hours of inking later).

Just wondering... have any of you heard anything about the new Twisted Tattoo in Indiana, PA. It used to be Stainless Steel Tattoo on Philly Street, but I heard that the guy running the show ran away. Anyway, I'm thinking of adding on to an existing tattoo, and I liked one of their designs. I can't say that I've seen much of their work first hand.

That is / was ran by Jimmy "Roach" former guitar player with Bitter Route ( a good J-Town based Southern Rock Band ) He is noted for his Tattoo's so I would say you're good to go there. Not sure about the story of him taking off though.
