William (Bill) Long - local musician has passed away

Post by moxham123 »

Sorry to say another local musician has passed away.

William (Bill) Long, 66, of Johnstown, passed away suddenly on March 28, 2022. We are completely unprepared for this unexpected loss and miss him greatly.

Bill was born on November 18, 1955 to June (Pfeil) and Leroy Long in Johnstown. After graduating from Greater Johnstown Vo-Tech in 1973, he went on to become a successful business owner of Long’s Pizza, Long’s Auto, and Reese’s Pizza.

Bill is survived by his children, Melissa, married to Michael Oliver, and his son, Scott, married to Erica (Sutt), and his grandchildren, Reese and Kaylee Long, Madelyn and Mason Oliver. Bill is also survived by his former wife of over 30 years, Anita.

Bill’s grandchildren meant more to him than anything else in the world. He was unendingly proud of granddaughters, Reese and Kaylee Long, Madelyn Oliver, and grandson Mason Oliver. He always tried his best to support and entertain them. He looked forward to Saturday night sleepovers where he spent countless hours playing ball, yahtzee, or listening to the triplets band.

Bill was also a passionate bass player and enjoyed playing in various bands over the years. He shared his love of music with his grandchildren, and passed it along buying them guitars, drum sets, amplifiers, microphones, and a pa system. Bill also had a love for cars.

Bill was preceded in death by his father, Leroy, his mother, June, and all 5 of his siblings, Debbie, Leroy (Butch), Diane Oberdorf, Jim, and Bonnie Kovack.

The family requests that all flowers and notes are sent to Moskal-Reid Funeral Home, 79 J. Street, where a memorial service will be held at 6:00 Friday, April 1.
