Post by Jim Price »

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the July 10 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

This week, we again caught up on mailbox traffic, checking out new recordings that have arrived at "Homegrown Rocker" headquarters in recent weeks! That means we debuted lots of new music, including songs from Shannon & the Merger, Wolves in Sheep's Clothing, Mason Porter, Kevin Price, Empire in Decline, Gene the Werewolf, Of Our Decade, Jakobs Ferry Stragglers, The Whatleys, Craig Kelley, The Hawkeyes and Vitruvia! We also updated "Local Music News," dug a 1975 tune from Bedford's Windflower from the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," and stepped "Across State Lines" to hear a tune from Morgantown, West Virginia heavy rockers Worst Kept Secret!

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

On our next program, we will be joined via phone by Pittsburgh indie rockers Native Alloys! We will meet the band members and learn their story, and get inside their music, plus play tracks from their debut EP Naked Light! Along the way, we will update "Local Music News," and dig out a "Local Music Flashback" from the archive!

Upcoming guests and specials include:

AUG. 7 - Fast Forward Special
AUG. 14 - Small Town Horror Show
AUG. 21 - Shannon & the Merger

In Local Music News...

The entertainment lineup has been finalized for the upcoming Dennie Huber Day, happening on Sunday, July 31 at Delgrosso's Amusement Park in Tipton in celebration of area entertainer Dennie Huber. Performing during the event will be the Band OZ, the Servello Family & Friends, Bone Jacked, This Albatross, 100 Proof, Feast or Famine, Felix & the Hurricanes, the Pub Crawlers and Shallow 9. The event will take place from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m., and will also feature a Chinese auction, cartoon caricatures by Cory Geishauser and more, with proceeds helping Dennie's surviving family with final costs. Dennie, known as a popular children's entertainer, magician, balloon artist and host/organizer of the annual Crazy Fest Amateur Youth Talent Show, passed away on June 12 at the age of 60.

Nobody's Heroes is releasing their new recording. The group's new CD, One Foot on the Gas, The Other in the Grave, will be available for purchase at the group's upcoming shows, and the digital album will soon be available through iTunes.

Johnstown metal rockers Darkness On The Radio have announced that they will be issuing their first recording, a three-song EP, within the next few weeks.

And a New York-based drummer who performed on area stages with several touring bands has passed away. Michael Haar unexpectedly passed away on June 20 at age 50. Michael had performed on area stages several times as the drummer of New York-based Kiss tribute act Kiss Alive NYC, and also as a fill-in drummer for Harrisburg rockers StarChild.
