Hello Everyone,
Here is the recap of the February 7 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.
While most of the nation was watching Peyton Manning and the Denver Broncos upset the Carolina Panthers in Super Bowl 50, the "Homegrown Rocker" celebrated the talented women of the local and regional music scene with our 2016 "Ladies of Local Music" special. We spotlighted the women who write songs, sing, play guitars, keys, basses, drums, accordions and other instruments on area stages. Along the way, we debuted new songs from Lovebettie, Bree Gearhart, Joy Ike, Simple Gifts and Fist Fight in the Parking Lot. We also updated "Local Music News," dug a 1995 song by Crossover from the archive for a "Local Music Flashback," stepped "Across State Lines" to hear a song from State College native and current Los Angeles resident Aeb Byrne, and reviewed Sherri Mullen's Shadows CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"
Here is this week's playlist (with spotlighted ladies in parentheses):

In Local Music News...
Following up on last week's top story - Following a massive national outcry, Philadelphia city councilman Mark Squilla has decided to withdraw his proposed bill that would have required owners of nightclubs, cabarets, bars and restaurants in the city to collect the names, addresses and phone numbers of entertainers in a registry, and to share that personal information with police upon request. Squilla said it was "not his intent" to create a registry of performers, and that he will now work with members of Philadelphia's music industry to craft new legislation from scratch.
One of the area's top modern country groups will be calling it quits later this year. Pistol Peg & the Beer Kegs have announced that they will go their separate ways after a highly successful five-year run on area stages. The group's final show will be their performane at Altoona's Railroaders Museum on July 1, part of the museum's recently-announced 2016 Alive at Five Summer Concert Series.
And the Allegheny Ukulele Kollective will present their third annual Ukulele Soiree event on the weekend of April 15-17. This year's event will take place at Laurel Lodge retreat outside of Altoona. The Soiree will feature ukulele skill workshops, jam sessions and open mics, a ukulele petting zoo, plus guest performers including Colin Chapman, Gerald Ross, Mim of Mim's Ukes, Skye Zentz and more. Due to limited space, registration is limited to 150 participants. For registration and other information about the Soiree, visit the website http://soiree.alleghenyukes.com. (The Allegheny Ukulele Kollective will be guests on the March 27 edition of the "Homegrown Rocker" to discuss the Soiree and their organization.)
