HOMEGROWN ROCKER 11/1/15

Post by Jim Price »

Hello Everyone,

Here is the recap of the November 1 edition of 105.9 Qwik-Rock's weekly local music program, "The Homegrown Rocker," which airs every Sunday night from 8 to 10 PM on Lion Country's Rock Station, 105.9 Qwik-Rock. The show can also be streamed via Qwik's website, www.1059qwikrock.com.

We returned to the mailboxes this week to see what new recordings arrived, and then shared music from those arrivals with you! We debuted new tunes from Eric Morder, Glenn Kidder, Mesa Jane, Float, Striped Maple Hollow, City Dwelling Nature Seekers and Behind the Grey! We also updated "Local Music News," dug a 2005 number from 4 Days Dirty from the archive for this week's "Local Music Flashback," stepped "Across State Lines" to hear music from Weirton, WV-based hard rockers The Dimlite, and reviewed Miss Melanie & the Valley Rats' Live at Otto's CD during the return of "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Here is this week's playlist:

HOUR ONE:

THE NIGHTCRAWLERS - "African Echo"
FELIX & THE HURRICANES - "Walking a Straight Line"
ERIC MORDER - "I Once Met Lauren Bacall"
THE TOMMY ROBERTS - "Fishin' for Pearls"
GLENN KIDDER - "Bargin' Down the Mon"
STRIPED MAPLE HOLLOW - "Kill or Be Killed"
MESA JANE - "Lay Your Arms Down"
OVERHEAD - "Midnight Son"
FLOAT - "No End"
CITY DWELLING NATURE SEEKERS - "Devil's Den"

4 DAYS DIRTY - "Stone Cold" (2005, Local Music Flashback)
THE DIMLITE - "Why Are Banks Closed on Sunday" (Across State Lines)
WRATH OF TYPHON - "Graverobber"

Next week's show will continue our exploration of new arrivals in the show's mailboxes, and we will debut more new tracks! We'll again update "Local Music News," dig a "Local Music Flashback" from the archive, check out an independent band or artist from outside the state as we step "Across State Lines," and review the Legendary Hucklebucks' Hillbilly Death-Wrock Volume One CD in "The Professor's CD Corner!"

Upcoming guests and specials include:

NOVEMBER 15 - Jim Donovan's Sun King Warriors
NOVEMBER 29 - Local Music Live in Concert Special
DECEMBER 6 - Sterling Koch

(All dates are subject to changes as circumstances warrant.)

And the area music scene mourns the passing of an influential guitar player who made his mark on the Altoona area music sene from the late 1960s through early 1980s. Tom Swovick passed away last month in Florida at age 63. Tom played guitar in a number of Altoona area-based projects, including Black Diamond, Toyz, Genesis, Heartbreaker, The Surge, Bittersweet and more.
